MARKUS, Frank J., 90, of Ambler, PA died December 19,2008 in the Pembroke Health and Rehab Center, West Chester, after a brief stay. Born October 5, 1918 in Mahanoy City, he was a son of the late Stephen and Mary Smellowsky Markus. He served in the Navy Submarine Service aboard the USS S-14, the USS Flasher, the USS Tarpon and the USS Seadog from 1942 to 1947. He was an automotive assembler, employed by Budd Company, Philadelphia, prior to his 1975 retirement. He was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Church, Ambler, U.S. Submarine Veterans World War II Association Delaware Chapter "Silent Service," Moose Lodge 539, Sellersville, since 1949, VFW Post 1420, Mahanoy City. He was preceded in death by his wife of 44 years, Rosalie P. Markus Burke in 1996; brothers and sisters, Jake, Joseph, Andrew, Mary, Anna and Josephine. He is survived by his children, Frank J. (Laura) Markus, Germantown, Md., and Rosaline M. (Thomas) Norris, West Chester; grandchildren, Brian J. (Marga), Breanna L. Markus, T. Bradford and Sarah B. Norris; a great-granddaughter, Natalia Markus; a sister, Helen Bross, Dunmore; a brother, Stephen Markus, Middletown; his companion, Marion Philomeno, Norristown, with whom he shared his love of dancing, both ballroom and swing; and several senior citizen members. Relatives and friends may call from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday in the Chapel of St. Anthony of Padua Church, Forrest Avenue, Ambler, with a Funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. with Monsignor Stephen P. McHenry officiating. Interment will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Ambler. Remembrances in his name may be sent to the American Cancer Society, 700 Horizon Circle, Suite 201, Chalfont, PA 18914, or to the U.S. Subvet WWII USS Becuna Fund, Independence Seaport Museum, 211 S. Columbus Boulevard, Philadelphia, PA 19106. Anton B. Urban Funeral Home, Ambler, is in charge of arrangements.

DALEANES, James George, 83, of Danville died Wednesday, December 24, 2008. Jim was born January 9, 1925, in Chicago, to George and Bertha Koumouzi Daleanes. He attended Ray Grade School in Hyde Park, South Shore High School and Wright Jr. College in Chicago. He was stationed at Pearl Harbor during World War II and served on a submarine in the Pacific Theater. He had formerly worked for Pullman Railroad Car Company, Esquire Cleaners and the Board of Election Commissioners in Chicago. He was a member of Church of the Three Hierarchs Greek Church in Champaign. He enjoyed gardening. Jim married Fay Langas on Feb. 15, 1964, at Danville Central Christian Church, and she survives. Survivors include a brother, Thomas (Penelope) Daleanes of Roselle; two sisters, Suzanne Dangles of Palos Park and Georgina Rummel of Oak Park; and several nieces and nephews, including Donna DeCamara and Chris Dangles of Champaign. Jim was godfather to Art Barges of Decatur and Nicholas and Jessica Dangles of Champaign. He was preceded by his parents; a sister, Helen Flessor; and a brother-in-law, William Langas. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 27, at Pape Memorial Home and Cremation Gardens, 10 E. Williams St., Danville, IL 61832 with Rev. Economos Michael Condos officiating. Visitation will be from 11:30 a.m. t 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Carle Cancer Center, Carle Development Foundation, 611 W. Park, Urbana, IL 61801-2595.
