GARRETT, Wayne F., 68, passed away January 4, 2009 in Reno, NV. Wayne was born to Donald and Hertha Garrett, June 30, 1940 in Salem, OR and moved with his parents to Pacific Grove, CA when he was about 10. He attended school through high school in Pacific Grove and graduated there. He attended one year of Monterey Junior College and then enlisted in the US Navy, aiming for submarine school. He graduated from submarine school and spent three years aboard the USS Ronquil (SS-396) in the Pacific. Following the Navy he worked for IBM for nearly 38 years, retiring four years ago. He is survived by his wife, Joan; sons, Dave (Kathy) and Steve and fiancee, Nicole; grandchildren, Ryan and Kristina; step- daughter, Sharon (Dan) and their son, Mike. He is also survived by his former wife, Marilyn; aunt, Trudy and Byron and numerous relatives in Oregon, North Dakota and Minnesota. Wayne enjoyed his association with the US Submarine Veterans Inc., his family and friends, playing blackjack, and telling sailor stories. He was an eager neighborhood handyman. A memorial service for Wayne and another submarine veteran will be held at the Corvina Base Memorial, Veterans Cemetery, 14 Veterans Way, Fernley, NV on Saturday, January 10, 2009 at 11 a.m. with a reception to follow at the Silverado. Family services and burial will be held in Pacific Grove, CA early next week with The Paul Mortuary. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers donations to US Submarine Veterans Inc., Corvina Base, PO Box 12291, Reno, NV 89510- 2291, attn. Don Brown.
