At random: "I saw the submariners, the way they stood aloof and silent, watching their pigboat with loving eyes. They are alone in the Navy. I admired the PT boys. And I often wondered how the aviators had the courage to go out day after day and I forgave their boasting. But the submariners! In the entire fleet they stand apart!” -- James Michener

I've been experimenting with different ways to display photos on the USS Tusk website.
Today I added some using a pdf format, could you take a look and let me know if you have any problems viewing? Thanks in advance, Gary

And word has it that it tore him up to use his tinfoil hat for an antenna!

Looks good Gary....loads a little slowly but going from picture to picture is speedy......

Gawd, do I remember gettting cross-threaded with those UDT guys there in 1960. Whooo-ee could they drink.

Of course, they welcomed us into their little club and made us feel right at home. Rum'n coke was a quarter or somesuch. Jeez.

We were back-and-forth from San Juan and in there several nights. Then Task Force Alfa pulled in and screwed up the whole island. Some carrier squirrels found the little UDT club somehow, came in, and got obnoxious. The UDT guys threw them through the open spaces (where windows would be if you needed windows) out onto the ground. They got the hint and left.

I was new onboard and a PO, so the COB put me on Shore Patrol when we had to assign someone to that. The SP duty officer suggested that my dolphins might be a red flag to drunken skimmers, but I wasn't about to take them off. So I (and another guy off the boat) were assigned a quiet neighborhood bar out toward the airport.

There were several disturbances downtown during the evening... but we stayed clear.

The UDT folks were 4.0 in any submariner's book. Crazy, but nice.
