At random: "I don't know why we have to be down here on this hold down exercise(at the 60th hour). Hell, I went through this on the Thresher (SS 200) during WW ll with a Nip Sea Going Tug hooked onto our screw guards, trying to lift our butts out of the water. They didn't get us then, and these Tin Cans (ours) ain't going to get us now." -- "Hambone" Hamilton SD1 (SS). "Hambone" made 13 war patrols on USS Remora, SS-487, uttered these words in July 1957 during a hold down exercise off Kobe Japan.

Hey Don:
Bought the "ride" yesterday and will take delivery in the spring; no sense trying to ride it with a foot of snow on the ground and more on the way. Unlike yours, ours lasts until April. Went with the 2009 Electra Standard. Keep the light on; I'll be riding out there before you know up; photos to follow.

Sure am glad you are waiting until Spring to take delivery. For someone that has trouble just walking in the snow surely ought not try and ride a bike in it. ))))ping((((((

Lets see now, Doc lives near Detroit. You can have vehicles stolen to order there. Could it be the thieves won't have access to a motorcycle until spring? As a safety note, better buy a trailer. Anyone that can't walk a little Scottie without busting a leg, certainly doesn't need a motorcycle. Or, could the delay be due to a needed rear relief? Hemoriods don't tend to go with long motorcycle rides. Then of course there are those that are prefect -------s, and love to ride.

Well, my southern shipmate; we have a foot of snow on the ground and 6-8 inches of new stuff falling, as I write this. Not the best time to be riding anything other than a snowmobile. But, come spring you'll hear the roar of the engines and the latest adventure begins. I need some practice time before going to see Don but the trip is getting closer each day.
Now, back to my snowblower so I can get out to the grocery

Great news Doc!  Our snow has turned to rain and I wish it would stop long enough for me to wash my bike... it's killin' me

By the time you get out here, you'll be and old pro.  I've found that by day three of a road trip, most folks really get in the groove and feel pretty much at home on the bike.

I've always ridden with the assumption that everyone else on the road is an a**hole and out to kill me (I like that explanation better than "ride defensively" and so far, it's worked for 35 years!

You are gonna have a blast and keep me informed as to schedule and I'll join ya for a few legs if you don't mind.

Lets see now, it's 64 here. Probably going to have rain by dark. Had a Camealeon for company in the deer stand last night, so I know the fang toothed devils are out again. We can only seem to have 2 cold days in a row, then it gets into the seventies and eighties again. Seriously, be careful on that thing. Most cities did away with their motorcycle patrols because of the number of injuries that weren't the fault of the driver. I know at least six medically retired officers that loved their bikes.

Doc, keep me advised of the delivery date and I'll arrange for my local "seat-spring" tester,  Terry Klausen,  to check it out for you.

in a couple of weeks at the winter meeting of Escolar Base; remember when he had to rescue my wife at the dinner in Groton and escort her back in when she got tossed out on her ear?
Only a Torpedoman would be so chivalrous (even if he doesn't know what that means)
Got any messages for him?

Thanks Doc, we're all caught up.  We talked yesterday on the phone.

I recall the "wife incident", but none of the details, but nevertheless was happy to make room for you both at one of our Sea Robin tables.

Regards to All.

Motorcycle riding can easily become an addiction. I can recall when PEP used to talk abou this 'sanity' rides. I used to have a blast riding my 450cc DUCATI in the Florida sand dunes. Our boys rode 100cc bikes in enduro runs.Little Robin rode a mini-bike. This was a big part of our family recreation during my later years of active duty. Then I tried a Honda street bike for awhile. Scared the turd out of me. Those crazy four wheel auto drivers for the most part are blind to motorcycles!Thankfully(?) I retired all bikes after retirement. They were missed...

Enjoy your second childhood, Doc! But please watch out for the crazies that occupy your ath. Single Malt won't help.

Many VFW Posts now have sanctioned motorcycle units. I'm involved with a group from the Texas hill country that's sponsoring a Memorial Ride to the VFW National Home for Children in Michigan for the Fourth of July parade as a fund raiser for the Home. Other units from other departments are joining up along the route. Expecting around 300 bikes to make the finish. It's a great project with a worthy goal.
