CHADBOURNE, Jr., Harland Alfred, 78, died at home Sunday, February 8, 2009. A Jacksonville native, he was born September 21, 1930, to Iverna and Harland A. Chadbourne Sr. He graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in 1948. Harland graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1953 and served five years on active duty in the Navy. He retired as a Lieutenant following his last assignment with Submarine Squadron 8 out of New London, Conn. He always enjoyed reunions with his Navy friends and classmates, who knew him as Chad, and was active in the United States Submarine Veterans Inc., First Coast Base. Harland's large and extended family always looked to him to say grace before meals during frequent family gatherings, and his blessings were always thoughtful, insightful and timely. Over his career, Harland worked as the safety officer at the Jacksonville Shipyards, for the Duval County School Board overseeing new construction and as head of facilities for Florida Community College at Jacksonville. He had a master's degree in education from Nova University and taught Dale Carnegie classes as well as business classes at FCCJ. Harland was a past member of the Exchange Club. Even after retirement, Harland was not one to sit around, and he worked during tax season over several years for H&R block and the Internal Revenue Service. In addition to his wife of 48 years, Jane, Harland is survived by two daughters, Eleanor Chadbourne and Lynn Chadbourne; two sons Harland Chadbourne III (Ximena), and Howard Chadbourne (Chrisy); two granddaughters, Madeline and Isabella; one brother, Bruce Chadbourne (Nancy); and sister-in-law Carol Howard. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday February 12, 2009 at All Saints Episcopal Church with The Rev. Thomas Deppe officiating. Interment to follow at a later date. Pallbearers will be John Sullivan, Thomas H. Streeper, Michael Mullis, Gene Howerton, Roberto Costa and Leonard Dantzler. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to All Saints Episcopal Church. STREET, Eric Darrell, departed this life on Thursday, Feb. 5, 2009, at Ochsner Foundation Medical Center in New Orleans. He was born in Chicago on July 7, 1947, to the late Edward and Evelyn Gray Street. Eric was baptized at an early age at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Chicago. At the time of his death, he was a member of the St. Peter United Methodist Church in Clinton, where he served faithfully. Eric was a resident of Zachary and former graduate of the U.S. Navy's Electronic Technician "A" School. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1966 and was commissioned to serve on the USS Benjamin Franklin nuclear submarine. One of only two African-Americans aboard the ship, Eric served as an electronic technician and nuclear reactor operator for eight years. After an honorable discharge from the U.S. Navy, he worked for several private firms in Chicago, including IBM and Xerox. His last employer was Dick Roundtree Copiers of Baton Rouge, where he served as service manager and vice president until his health failed. His lifestyle was gentle and he touched the hearts of many. If you ever met him, you would never forget him. He made an unforgettable impact on those who knew and loved him. "Baba," as his grandchildren passionately knew him, was a "giver." He gave generously to many local and national charities, as well as providing services to St. Vincent de Paul. Through all of his generosity and humility, his greatest love was "family." Eric leaves to cherish fond memories a loving and devoted wife, Sharon Carter Street, of Zachary; four children, Michelle Nix, of Dallas, Eric Darrell Street II and wife Deidre, of Baton Rouge, Doria Telsa and husband Bernard, of Cedar Hill, Texas, and April Street, of Grand Prairie, Texas; three sisters, Maria Bijou and husband William, and Evelynn Street, all of Chicago, and Chelsia Street, of Dallas; brother, Edward Street Jr., of Nashville, Texas; four aunts, an uncle, six grandchildren, former wife, three surrogate daughters, five sisters-in-law, four brothers-in-law, numerous nieces and nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends. His parents, a brother and a granddaughter, preceded him in death. Visitation at Richardson's Funeral Home, Clinton, on Wednesday, Feb. 11, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Funeral service at St. Peter United Methodist Church, Clinton, on Thursday at 11 a.m., officiated by the Rev. Clark L. Clark, and eulogy by the Rev. David Carter Sr. Interment in the church cemetery. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Richardson Funeral Home, 11816 Jackson St., (225) 683-5222.
