At random: Long considered a versatile and deadly instrument of war, the submarine has broadened her capabilities with the adoption of nuclear power. Today the submarine serves as a ballistic missile platform, early warning station, killer of surface and underwater vessels, scout, coastal raider troop transport, supply ship, mine layer, and seaplane tender.

So they turned over a boat to the Army? When did that happen? Go figure!

Now I thought the new work uniform was to hide paint stains resulting from painting while underway or in port. You would think that Submariners would be exempt. Honestly how often do the crew paint the boat these days? Of course the new uniforms might be helpful in hiding food droppings, (for those who suffer from less than tidy eating habits)

Observations from an olde phart:
1. Uuuu-gggg-ly! Can you imagine trying to spot a MOB (man overboard) in choppy conditions? The poor bastard would simply disappear, even if he was only a hundred feet away, due to the camouflaging effect.

2. What's the device or emblem near the bottom of the left breast pocket? USN emblem? Ship's patch in camo and small size? Everyone has it - O-gangers, nubs and qualified crew alike.

3. The second from the left in the rear row is one tall dude. In my day, guys like that would be instantly nicknamed 'Lurch' and would have creased foreheads from banging them against the tops of WTDs and other overhead components.

4. Did I mention UGLY?

Looks just like my Marine's working uniform.

Gol-dang it. The Navy has always had the unique-est uniforms of any service. No more.

Hope they pass through this phase quickly.

Yeah....what Flapper said!
Imagine trying to get out of those boots in a MOB situation.

The military fashion designers probably have never been in the military and have never had to wear their product. Besides, I thought the miltary has illegal aliens painting their ships. I know the San Diego sub base got busted for using them.

In my day, an inspection in working uniform would find no one dressed alike and only a half dozen hats among them.

Makes ya wonder just how long the current brainchild will last.
Each time the "designers" come up with a new idea it's just
another bite on the raghat's back pocket.(A hell of a waste of good beer money,
if you ask me.)(which nobody did,by the way)

Someone posted (in a site that I don't remember) that the services are suffering from "Testosterone Poisoning" in that they all are Marine/Army wannabees, in that they want to have "cool-looking" uniforms like the Marines.

For the life of me, I can't see why you would need cammies outside of a desert or woodland *combat* environment.

Personally, I prefer the dungarees/chambray shirt working uniform. But I'm an Olde Pharte. :-)

Besides, the Navy didn't ask me my opinion.

Oh, well, I guess it's a different world and styles change.

You are all missing the point!

Some US Senator's brother-in-law owns a rag shop -- this is all part of the economic stimulus plan, nothing more to it than that!

Like all of Zumwalt's "hen-house" and other assorted kidney stones, this too shall pass.

Maybe so - I hope so!

But it took almost 10 years for the bus-driver blues I was issued in boot camp in 1973 to be replaced by a real Navy dress uniform.
