My computer still operates like a crab pot anchor and has the same ability to get on line as my refrigerator and the local Seven-Eleven dumpster. So where am I? I am at the local senior citizen center...They will only let you use a computer for 30 minutes at the local library and you have to get on a "take a number" list with all sorts of strange and exotic individuals who communicate in the unknown tongue to remote locations on the planet...to probably include caves in Northern Pakistan and mud huts in Boogaloogaland. Someone told me that if you were on the short side of 65 tapdancing into the twilight of your golden years...you could turn up at the county old coots playpen and fire up one of their 'slow as hell' word sending contraptions and take as long as you required... The treehouse landlord Don the Ringmaster set me up with a new gangplank pass and here I am...For those of you who have never visited a senior citizen center, let me fill you in on the activity in this one. Folks who look like they are waiting for the embalming fluid to kick in, sit around playing Canasta with cards that look like a gorilla shuffled them for a month....The Three Dollar lunch comes in a brown paper bag that contains an apple, cheese sandwich, bag of Fritos and a cardboard carton of prune juice, with a short flexible plastic straw attached to it....This does not seem very wise as most of the old folks who turn up here are wearing Old Folks Diapers and there is a disposal recepticle in the men's room the size of a Winebago topped off with the damn things. Some old sweetheart, old enough to have shacked up with Sinbad the Sailor, just told me that, these meals are the same ones the county serves folks in the county lock-up. If you need first hand accounts of gall stone procedures, discussions of barium enemas...back pains...ingrown toenails...the joys of acid refux....incontinence complications that attend watching full length features at a movie theater (to include sitting on the back row so if necessary you can pee in a nearly empty popcorn bucket in an emergency.....) This place has GREAT lunch table conversation. Anyway that's where, I am....Some old lady in heavy support stockings just announced that BINGO is scheduled to begin in five minutes. Well, I need to inform everyone about the schedule of events as planned for the Ron "Warshot" Smith memorial service. DATE: 17 March 2009... TIME: 11:00AM...PLACE: Old Post Chapel at Fort Meyer. ENTER MAIN GATE OF THE CEMETARY (You can obtain a cemetery map at the VISITORS'S CENTER where the personnel at the information desk will draw you a route through the cemetary to the back gate with the Chapel directly beyond the gate.) The cemetary has only ONE wheelchair and FIVE folding chairs for "family only". The Underwater Fan Mechanic is trying to workout some kind of officer scooogie-moogie cumshaw deal with high level elves for wheelchairs and folding chairs from the Bethesda Naval Hospital....More on that later. Ray "THE SENIOR CITIZEN GOAT" has set up a reception at the Officers Club (Patton Hall) inside Fort Meyer. It will run from 12 Noon to 3PM...or better put...It will follow graveside services. Now, will someone do me the favor of calling John Wynn and telling him that I got online and posted this information...The SOB has five tribes of aborigines doing dances to warp my spine. make my downline generations bald...cause my roof to leak...and make that prune juice work where I can't get my hands on a popcorn bucket. John Wynn is bringing Mrs Constance McPhereson and Joe Roche (Connie Mac, as John refers to her, is the lovely widow of Capt. McPhereson who went to elementary school with Warshot, who rode the USS Seal with Ron and Mrs. Mcphereson has remained a dear family friend for years.). But those of you who know John, know that he is a great one for constant follow-up. Wynn sticks to you like a butt carbuncle until you do what he expects you to do....after he has made you promise to do it on a four foot stack of Bluejackets Manuals. Somebody tell that pain-in-the-hippockets sonuvabitch to mail me one of his GET OUT OF MY DOGHOUSE FREE cards and call off the damn wolves. And last...no replies necessary as I can't get the damn things on my waffle iron. Anyone needing to talk to me or give me an offer to spend the night with their Aunt Beatrice at the Holiday Inn, can reach me at (703) 971-3092...I don't get voice messages out so iit will tell you the box is full....which is OK with me because (A) I don't play the lottery....(B) Meg Ryan never calls....and (C)(Getting stuff out of the of the fool thing requires all sorts of OPEN SESSEME...ABBRAHCADABRA Horse Manure...secret passwords...magic beans...and other assorted BS. I use my telephone like a 1940's phone...If I am home, I answer the sonuvabitch;if I'm not,I don't......extremely simple system. Works for me.) I miss you guys....a lot of the sunshine went out of my life when my magic carpet box turned in it's gear and relocated on the Planet Mongo. Now somebody call Wynn before he mails me another envelope full of scorpions. Thanks DEX

Dr. Dexter...

Here is your "GET OUT OF MY DOGHOUSE FREE" cards...(Imagine a physical card??)

Hey, I love yer happy ass and YOU know that!!!!

Mrs. McPhearson is VERY excited to see Warshot's wife again...

Thanks, Big Guy for posting under less than ideal conditions...Did you win the
Bingo game??

Actually, we've been thinking for years (40 School street) of selling Depends with the
SubVets logo on the back so a "mistake" is not so visable..

I seriously appreciate your effort and devotion to this ceremony..

Thanks, Brother..

Curt, Thanks for the url's for the maps. Now when we get lost we can refer to said maps....Last time there, we found out, if lost don't ask anyone under the rank of Colonel/Captain for the directions....They've been in the area the longest and know their way around.

All, please check the pages:

http://www.cdhaggard.com/warshot.htm

http://www.cdhaggard.com/sailing.htm

Tip of the week:

When you enter Hatfield Gate, go straight and just before you get to the NEW/Memorial Chapel, TURN LEFT
- http://www.fmmc.army.mil/sites/about/map15.asp

...The cemetery will be on your right... See all the parking...

...Just about the time that road ends, you will see the big, "Old Post Chapel"

and you can turn right, ALMOST go on the cemetary, and turn right into the parking lots (Note the "WayPoint 'E' Icons" in the Google Earth Maps, at
http://www.cdhaggard.com/warshot.htm ).

I have been to LOTS of ceremonies starting at the Old Post Chapel. Almost always, the procession to the grave will assemble (walkers and cars line up...) right there, and then the guests drive onto Arlington, to near the grave site. I ususally walk (the walkers are near the front of the procession.

OH, RATS...and here I thought you were going to drag out the Chippendale's for me...it might be ME who may need the
chaparone!!!

Sorry to say Garry will not be able to attend...he is still out on sick leave...we are taking this day by day.
One day he is good (no dizzy spells) and the next...we are hoping to be able to remedy the situation on
Tues., with a visit to an ENT.  He has had an on-going bout of Meniere's Disease/Syndrome since Dec. 5th.
It started out with an ear ache and went into a full blown episode...and then his eardrums became inverted...
this is what we are hoping to remedy...and hopefully it will end this episode.

I, too, am looking forward to seeing everyone...and meeting those I have only corresponded with here and
via email.

You would want Chippendales when you have the talented group on hand?????? Great Scott, woman, do you have even a clue as to the superb talents bottled up within Dex, Olgoat, that West Coast Slut named Ric, the from down under character named Blue, the multi-talented Steamboat and the yet to be seen talents of Dan Ashley. Yeah, I'll be there with my whip and chair to try and maintain order with these wild beasts and the wild women trying to gain access.
I'm thinking that John/"Garry" had best fill his pockets with some Antivert medication and make his presence know. I might need some help so I'll bring an extra whip and chair for him to use.

Seriously, it's good to have some laughs and clown around some, however, it is an occassion that we are getting together for to celebrate the life and legend of one dog-gone good Submarine Veteran, Ron "Warshot" Smith. Having talked with Warshot a time or two and read his two books, I have the feeling that his Spirit will be there with us every step of the way.

Oh, you know the Chippendale's could NEVER compare to you guys...because we couldn't have any good laughs at each others expense...
are you sure that "whip and chair" is ONLY going to be used for crowd control??? ;>))  Poor Garry...I don't even think Antivert would help...and he would leave me to my "own devices" anyway...his stock saying "she's a big girl"...hey, if they let me run loose on the Sub Base
w/o my hubby (escorted by very nice sailors), I guess I can last a few days with you guys.

Glad you had brought the subject up as I too was wondering about the protocol for such things. I know a few of the guys back here are very interested in the event so it would be good to show them too.
