At random: In their history, submarines were called by many names such as 'eel boats', 'plunging boats', 'devil divers', and 'pig boats'. Technically, and by size, the submarine is a ship, but it has been called a boat since its earliest days, and the term is steeped in tradition. Submariners almost invariably call their ships 'boats".

I found this an interesting "for sale" post on ebay; what does the description of the uniform tells us about the shipmate who wore it?

When he heard a car pull in the driveway, he ran out the back door in just his skivvies and shoes?

Somehow, I get the feeling that the "wearer" of that uniform IS NOT the one who's selling it...and they have no clue!!

The "original owner" of that uniform had an illustrious career.

Lot of this stuff you are given.

1. Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal Ribbon (2 awards) ... this is good

* When Awarded For Professional Achievement

The act or service must clearly exceed that which is normally required or expected, considering the individual's grade or rate, training, and experience; and it must be an important contribution of benefit to the United States and the naval service.

* When Awarded For Leadership Achievement

The act or service must be noteworthy; it must be sufficiently sustained to demonstrate a high state of development (if for a specific achievement, it must be of such merit as to earn singular recognition); and, it must reflect most creditably on the efforts of the individual towards the accomplishment of the unit mission.

2. Battle Efficiency "E" Ribbon (1 award) ... happened to have been on the boat, group effort
3. Good Conduct Medal Ribbon (5 awards) ... They never caught him at anything
4. National Defense Service Medal Ribbon (2 awards) ... Gedunk
5. Global War on Terrorism Service Medal Ribbon (1 award) ... Gedunk
6. Navy Pistol Sharpshooter Ribbon (1 Award) ... Hit the target and didn't shoot himself

Little more to it than that but close enough.

They even gave me some of this.... :-)
