Keeping the hole dry and clear while they get those big clams off the North-West Coast. You know the ones that have the apendage that made you think twice about your sexuallity before you had another beer and ate them anyway.

Maybe stop his snickering whenever I take a leak in the pasture. (I can't believe I said that on a Sunday morning). Steamboat sends

That brings back memories of a shipmate from Windsor CT and I ( also from CT, ) clamming up near Port Orchard while our Boat (601) was in the yards at PSNY. We were shuckin and eating them as fast as we caught them when a local who looked to be in his 80s said to us.. "Oh no you fellers must be from back East" We asked him why he thought this to be so? "He said we don't eat them raw out here they could make ya sick or give ys worms" We said you don't know what you're missing. Cooking them cooks out much of what makes them so good.. A few of us Yankees also cleared the mess on the Lee one night when one of us scored a hundred or so Oysters and 3 of us shucked and sucked those nuggets down like it was our last meal..Hey even that Great General loved his oysters.. we had a few for him too. I guess it all depends on a persons culture.. Geoducks are to tough to eat raw but the make a great chowda.. We don't have them here but we do have little necks, cherrystones, and longnecks (aka steamers) but the best clam is a RI native called a Quahog.. Our very own Bluepoint Oysters are my favorite shellfish Umm Now I'm hungry.. I'll wager I got John Bay's stomach growling also. Edited by Smiley 2009-03-01 10:38 AM

"Puts lead in your pencil", know what I mean, Vern. We use to go out almost anywhere here in Charleston and gather some. The past few years though you have to be careful where you get them. With all the home development going on the rain runoff has polluted the waters with all kinds of chemicals. Bulls Bay is still a good spot.
