KOPJANSKI, Leonard Joseph, 82, of Boston, VA and formerly of Shelton, CT, departed this life in peace on March 6, 2009. Len was the former owner of White Hills Orchard in Huntington, CT from where he retired in 2000 and moved to Boston, VA to be with his children. In addition to farming, he also retired from Southern New England Telephone Company after thirty five years of service in various positions. Leonard served in the U.S. Navy Pacific Command during World War II as an electrician in the submarine division. He also served briefly in the U.S. Merchant Marines. He is survived by his daughter, Cinthia K. Thornhill, of Boston, VA and her daughter, USNR Ensign Brittany S. Thornhill, of St. Louis, MO. Also by, his son, Gary (Melanie) Kopjanski and their children, Hanna, Maddie, Andrew Leonard, and Benjamin of Boston, VA. In addition, he is survived by, his former wife Irene Kopjanski of Boston, VA. Leonard was one of thirteen children born to the now deceased, Pauline and Joseph Kopjanski of Hamden, CT and is also survived by his sister, Evelyn Cigich (Steve) of Waukesha, Wisconsin. A celebration of his life and legacy will be held on Friday, April 3rd beginning at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel in Culpeper with visitation at noon then a 1:00 memorial service followed by a procession to the new section of the Culpeper National Cemetery for a brief military service. In lieu of flowers, remembrances in the form of a donation to any of the following Rescue Squads would be appreciated: Sperryville, Castleton, or Washington, Virginia. COTHRAN, Jr., Charles Harrison, died peacefully at home on Tuesday, March 10, 2009. Charlie was born in Mobile, Alabama, on August 24, 1922, one of three sons of Charles H. Cothran, Sr. and Veva Harrison Cothran. He was working in the shipyards of Norfolk during World War II, until he quit to join the Navy, where he served as a submariner. Following the war, he earned a BS in Textile Engineering from NC State, which he put to good use in 19 years working for Burlington Industries. After this he was known to the people of Asheboro as a deputy sheriff and staff member of the NC Child Support Agency. He will be sorely missed by his wife, Ruth Brower Cothran; his daughters, Diane Henry of Greensboro and Autumn Roberts of Franklinville; his grandson, Greg Henry; his stepdaughters, Patricia Harrill of Brighton, England and Jan Harrill of Asheboro; and his step- grandchildren, Jennifer Brantley and Michael Brantley. He was preceded in death by his son, Grey. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, March 13, at Pugh Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Marion Smith officiating. Burial with military honors by the Randolph County Honor Guard will follow. KREEGER, Robert E., of 6 Deerbrook Rd., in Preston passed away Tuesday March 10, 2009, at The William W. Backus Hospital in Norwich. Mr. Kreeger was born on October 6, 1929, in Kansas City, Mo. He was the son of Creel and Bernice Kreeger. He was married to the late Marceda "Mickie" Renzoni on March 22, 1958. She died on April 8, 2001. A Navy veteran of the Korean War, he retired from the Navy as a Chief Petty Officer after 21 years. He then went to work at the United Nuclear Corp. as a supervisor and retired from UNC after 20 years. His survivors include two daughters, Bonnie Berry and Randi Jordan; a step-son, David Smith; two sisters, Betty Schad and Gayle Davidson; two brothers, William and Richard Kreeger; as well as five grandchildren. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday at the Byles Memorial Home, 99 Huntington St., New London. His burial with military honors will follow in the Jordan Cemetery, Waterford. There will be a visiting hour from 10 to 11 a.m. on Monday prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations in his memory be directed to Submarine Veterans Club, Inc., 40 School St., Groton, CT 06340.
