KRISTOFIK, Frank T. (Yitz), 94, of Pindars Corners, passed into eternal life peacefully on Wednesday, March 11, 2009, with his family at his side. Frank spent approximately a month at the New York State Veterans Home, Oxford, in Sprapple Cottage with caring individuals. Frank was born in New York City on Nov. 21, 1914. He married his loving wife, Frances Smith Kristofik, and they would have celebrated their 50th anniversary this year. He was predeceased by his mother, Anna (Wasalyshan), and stepfather, Paul Phillips; his father, Andrew Kristofik; his sister, Sophie Hurwitz; a brother, John, and his granddaughter, Denise Simmons. Frank his survived by his wife, Frances; his daughter by marriage, Trudy Simmons (Vance), of Castleton, and a grandson, Derek Simmons, of Rochester, along with several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Frank attended Oneonta School, worked for D & H Electric and Gas and entered the U.S. Navy during WWII. He was electrician's mate first class and held a submarine combat pin containing seven stars for successful war patrols. He then went to work for Scavo's Body Shop and later opened his own, Frank's Body Shop. He was an avid trapper, hunter and fisherman and admired sports cars. He was a member of the American Legion, Sixth Ward Athletic Club, Oneonta Sportsmen's Club Pistol Team, a lifelong member of the National Rifle Association and Disabled American Veterans. Family will receive friends Saturday from 2 to 3 p.m. at the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main St. A funeral service will be held immediately following at 3 p.m. with the Rev. Charles Christman officiating. Burial will be held in the spring in Glenwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in memory of Frank T. Kristofik to the Pindars Corners Fire Department, State Highway 23, Oneonta, NY 13820 or the Sixth Ward Athletic Club, 27 West Broadway, Oneonta, NY 13820.
