COLE, Willard R., 87, passed away peacefully in his sleep March 7, 2009 with his daughter Penny and long time companion, Marge Derrick at his side. Will had suffered from a form of dementia with lewy bodies since 2007 and was a long time resident of Concord, Walnut Creek and Rossmoor. Will was born November 16, 1921 in Union Mills, Washington near Olympia. He worked for Boeing as an electrical engineer for two years, then joined the Navy, serving in WWII as a Radio Engineer on a submarine based at Pearl Harbor. In 1955 he moved to Concord and went to work for Lee Saylor, as an estimator for high rise office and apartment buildings, this was his favorite job with a territory from Los Angeles to Seattle. He later became involved in real estate investing. Will was a self made man who worked hard for his family and the causes he believed in, especially the Boy Scouts. Will was gifted with a beautiful voice and he loved to sing. Opera and musicals were his favorites and he performed at the Lesher Center with the Walnut Creek Festival Opera. He was also a member of the Singing Messengers who performed at local assisted living and convalescent homes. Among Wills favorite pass times were watching the 49 ers, bowling, playing bridge and he was an excellent Bocce Ball player both at Pleasant Hill and Rossmoor. He also enjoyed riding in his Jaguar convertibles, fishing, gambling, creating Koi ponds and he loved his Cocker Spaniel, Lady. He is survived by his children Kenneth (Shanah) and Penny Cole, his grandchildren Jessica, Donavan, Clancy, Andrew and Katy, plus two great grandchildren Tawneya and Callel. His wife Marge and son Donavan Lee predeceased him. He was very devoted to his family and his conservative views. He truly tried to make a difference in the world and will be missed by all who knew and loved him. At Wills request, no services are planned, however any donations can be made to the Boy Scouts of America on behalf of Will Cole.

CABLE, Eugene Alden, died March 9, 2009. Survived by his former wife, Mary Cable-Piera; daughter, Angelina; son-in-law, Anthony, Sr.; grandchildren, Anthony, Jr. (Kirstin), Michael, Joseph (Rachel); great-grand-children, Jordan, Jake, McGuire. He was a WW II Navy Veteran, submarine division in Groton, CT. Services held at the convenience of the family. In his memory donations may be made to the American Diabetes Assoc.

FRENCH, James "Jim" E., 77, passed away peacefully on March 12, 2009, at Lawrence & Memorial Hospital, surrounded by family and loved ones. He was born Nov. 8, 1931, in Ayer, Mass., the son of Annabelle Doucette and Charles French. Jim joined the Navy at 17 and rose through the ranks to master chief machinist mate. After retiring from the Navy in 1972, he worked for Electric Boat for 28 years as a nuclear instructor. He was a proud member of the Fleet Reserve Association, Local Branch 20, and U.S. Submarine Veterans Association. Jim then spent 10 years driving the senior van for the Ledyard Senior Citizens Center. He loved helping the seniors, and in return, they brought joy to his life. Jim is survived by his children, Steven French of Norwich, Debra Hanley of Fairfax, Va., Sherrie Biscuti of Noank, Denise Fater of Savanah, Ga., and Dennis French of Seneca, S.C.; his grandchildren, Zoe and Jack Hanley, Amanda French, PJ and Jamie Biscuti, and Vernon French Fater; and his loving companion, Winnie Solarczyk and her children, Barbara, Michael, Linda, Karen, and granddaughters, Mary and Barbara. He is also survived by his former wife, Phyllis Smith of Gales Ferry and his brothers, Maurice French and Bill French; as well as several nieces and nephews. His family will host a tribute in his honor from 1 to 3 p.m. on Monday, March 16, at the Elks Club in Groton. Transportation for members of the Ledyard Senior Center will be graciously provided by the senior center's van. Byles Funeral Home is assisting with these arrangements. Please do not send flowers. Donations may be made to US Submarine Veterans, 40 School St. , Groton CT 06340 or Fleet Reserve Association, Attn: Branch 20 Finance, 125 Northwest St., Alexandria VA 22314.

MAKRHAM, James R., 89, of The Villages, Fla., passed away on March 11, 2009. He was a retired Manager of Quality Control for Warner & Swasey in the construction equipment division. He was born in Essex, Mo., on Nov. 7, 1919. He moved to The Villages, Fla., in 1996 from Winona, Minn. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church at Summerfield, Fla. He was a Navy submarine veteran of World War II. He took early retirement and opened an antique shop in Winona, Minn., for 20 years, and he was very knowledgeable in antiques. Survivors include his wife, Sara L. Markham of The Villages, Fla.; daughters, Judy Swinehart of Dover, O., Kathy Ryan of Winona, Minn.; stepdaughters, Lisa James of Winona, Minn., Julie Brinkman of New Philadelphia, O., Jeanne Beaber of New Philadelphia, O.; and his sister, Martha Nelson of Massillon, O.; 18 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held Monday, March 16, at 11 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church at Summerfield, Fla. Donations in his honor may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church Building Fund, 17330 U.S. Highway 441, Summerfield, Fla. 34491.

Ooops... The correct spelling of the third name on todays's list is James R. MARKHAM. Sorry for any problem that may have caused.
