MOORHEAD, John K., 89, of Big Lake, MN, formerly of Edina, died March 16, 2009. John was born in Minneapolis on July 21, 1919. He attended the University of Minnesota and graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He received a degree in Naval Architecture from Cornell University. He served as a submarine engineering officer in the U.S. Navy during World War II. After the war he joined the family business, Moorhead Machinery & Boiler Co. of Minneapolis where he served as President from 1974 through 1986. During his business career he engineered and developed for manufacture a wide range of product lines for the agr-chem and petro-chem industries as well the organization of a service and erection division for the power plant industry both fossil fuel and nuclear. In 2003 John was honored by the University of Minnesota Engineering Department with "The Outstanding Achievement Award" for his many accomplishments. John served for many years on the advisory committee of the North American Office, N.W. National Bank (now Wells Fargo). He served on the board of directors of St. Benedict's College, St. Cloud, Minnesota. He was a member of "Fox & Hounds" a luncheon group for Minneapolis business leaders. He belonged to the Minikahda Country Club of Minneapolis and the Moorings Country Club of Naples, Florida. John was an avid hunter, golfer and skier. John was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Jeanne Kelly; and son, John Kelly. Survived by daughters, Merrilee (Joel) Diner, Sandra (Todd) Nida; grandchildren, John Todd Nida, Kelly Nida, Cerise Nida, Melissa Diner and Jessica Diner. He is also survived by his twin brother, Donald and sister, Lois Pearson. The family prefers memorials to Catholic Charities. Mass of Christian Burial 11 AM Friday with visitation 1 hour prior to the Mass at the Church of St. Patrick, 6820 St. Patrick's Lane (Valley View at Gleason Rd), Edina. Interment St. Mary's Cemetery. HOMANS, Sidney W., passed away peacefully in his sleep at St. Catharines General Hospital on Monday, March 16, 2009 after a courageous battle with pain. Sidney served in the British Royal Navy in WWII in a submarine, and his love for sailing and ships continued throughout his life. Dearly loved and sadly missed by his wife of 59 years Marie, his sons Gary (Diane), Glen (Debbie) and daughter Tracy of Calgary, grandchildren Glen (Laura), Jeff, Michael, Stephanie, Sidney and Sam (Calgary), great-granddaughters Alexia and Cassandra, surrogate daughters Barbara, Cindy (Rob), Syme (Adrian) and Lea (Vince). Cremation has taken place. A memorial service to celebrate Sidney's life will be held at the NIAGARA-ON-THE-LAKE CHAPEL of the MORGAN FUNERAL HOMES, 415 Regent St., Niagara-on-the-Lake on Friday, March 20, 2009 at 1 o'clock.
