PATTERSON, Ronald Edward, 68, of Pascagoula passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 19, 2009. He was born December 19, 1940 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and has been a long time resident of Pascagoula. Mr. Patterson was a proud US Navy veteran, where he enjoyed a distinguished 22 year career in the Submarine forces, retiring with the rank of Master Chief. An MBA graduate of the University of Southern Mississippi, he also served as Director of Physical Plant for Biloxi Regional Medical Center for 20 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Clara Patterson of Milwaukee, WI and his granddaughter, Tara McDonough of Prairieville, LA. An avid bass fisherman and life member of Singing River Bass Masters, Ron is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, the former Clara Louise Kuapahi, of Honolulu, Hawaii; sons Ryan Patterson of Pascagoula, MS; Bob McDonough of New Orleans, LA; Bill (Rita) McDonough of Prairieville, LA; Ricky McDonough of Winter Haven, FL; sister Pam Miles and her children Tami, Tricia, Tracy and Jimmy of Oconomowoc, WI; grandchildren, Megan, Brittany, Edwin, Sean and Sydney; Ginette Champton of New Orleans, LA; Althea Trahan of Gautier, MS and numerous other family and friends. The family would like to express their gratitude to Odyssey Hospice and to Joe and Brenda Kempner for their kind and generous help over the past few months. MORRISON, Elvin “Whitey”, 86, of Reno, passed away March 17, 2009 at his home. He was born August 7, 1922 in Red Deer, Canada. Whitey was educated in Spokane, WA. He served in the United States Navy for 21 years. He was an electronics instructor at the Great Lakes Naval Center in Great Lakes, IL, and served on submarines during WWII and Korean Conflict. Whitey moved to Reno in 1961 from Kenosha, WI. He went to work for Walton Funeral Home, where he retired after 35 years with the company. He was a member of the Corvina Base Submarine Group and St. Albert the Great Catholic Church. He was a master woodcarver. Whitey is survived by his wife of 49 years, Dolores Morrison; sisters-in-law; Agnes (Ed) McCaffery, Terry Hudson and Eleanor (Tony) Saliture; brother-in- law, Norbert (Carol) Matoska; nieces and nephews, Paula McCaffery, Ed (Tanya) McCaffery, III, Tammy (Michael) Dermody, Tim (Claudia) McCaffery, and Richard Morrison, as well as many great- nephews and nieces. A private Mass was held at St. Albert the Great Catholic Church, with interment at Northern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Fernley. Memorial contributions would be appreciated to Bishop Manogue Catholic High School, 110 Bishop Manogue Drive, Reno, NV 89511. Arrangements are under the direction of Walton Funeral Home in Reno. BOLF, Sr., John Henry (Papa), 86, Longwood, Florida Formerly of St. Charles, MI passed away on Friday, March 13, 2009 in Longwood, Florida. Son of the late Steve and Anna Hrasko. John was born on November 27, 1922 in Brant, Michigan. John worked on the family farm until the age of 19, when he enlisted in the U.S. Navy on January 2, 1942 following the attack on Pearl Harbor. During WWII, John served on the heavy cruiser USS Astoria, which was sunk by the Japanese in the Battle of Guadalcanal on August 9, 1942. More than half of his shipmates died and John floated in the ocean for hours before being rescued. John endured rigorous training in Groton, Connecticut to join the Navy's elite submarine force. He completed his war duty on the submarine USS Guavina (SS-362), making 6 successful war patrols in which he helped sink 14 enemy ships, damaged 1 and rescued 17 American aviators. John then served on two additional submarines, the USS Becuna (SS-319) and USS Crevalle (SS-291). After the war, he met and married Betty Moran on March 5, 1951. He and Betty remained in the Navy until his retirement from the USS Albacore AGSS-569), an experimental submarine based in Portsmouth, New Hampshire after 20 years of service to his country and several commendations. After his military career, John began his civilian career as a heavy diesel mechanic, first at C&O Railroad and later as a skilled tradesman at GM Grey Iron and Nodular Iron, from which he retired in 1985. John was a member of the Submarine Veterans of World War II. He was most proud of his family, his service to his country, his work ethic, and his card playing and fishing skills. Those preceding him in passing are his wife of 47 years, Betty, on December 11, 1998, stepmother Mary, brothers Steve, Joe, Rudy, Eddie, Freddie, Frank and stepbrother Pete Pacek. Surviving are his three daughters and one son, Ann and Don Bierman, Birch Run, John Jr. and Susan Bolf, St. Charles, Carla Collins, Seattle, Washington, Heidi and Keith Thomas, Longwood, Florida, a sister Margaret Beauregard, and brothers Tony and Jerry. It is with his youngest daughter, Heidi and family that he had made his home for the last several years. He deeply appreciated the loving care he received from Heidi and her family. John also left nine grandchildren who loved him dearly; Nick and Neil Bierman, Krista Hoover, Andy Bolf, Tiffany Smith, Corey Calabro, Paige Collins, and Chelsea and MacKenzie Thomas. John was recently blessed with his first great-grandchild, Aubree Bierman. Those who knew John will greatly miss his war and fishing stories. A memorial service at Kendall Funeral Home, 316 W. Belle, St. Charles will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 24, 2009. Visitation will take place on Thursday from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. and 9:00 a.m. until time of service. Cremation has taken place, with John and Betty to be interred in Arlington National Cemetery, Washington, D.C. on June 18, 2009. Those planning an expression of sympathy are encouraged to consider the U.S. Submarine Veterans Fund at USSVI Subvet Charity, PO Box 3870, Silverdale, WA 98383 with check made payable to "USSVCF Museum Fund" or Aleda Lutz Veterans Medical Center Veteran's Recreation Fund in Saginaw in lieu of flowers.

OGLESBY, Donald Eastman, long time valley resident and business entrepreneur finished his heroic battle with cancer on March 19th, 2009 in the compassionate care of the Sherman Home Hospice. He will be greatly missed by his wife of 56 years, Beverly, and 5 children and their spouses, 11 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind his sister and two brothers, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law and many nieces and nephews. Donald was born on January 23, 1931 in Providence, Rhode Island to Elbert and Doris Wixon Oglesby. It was here that he developed his lifelong love of the ocean and sailing. Don's life is defined by his dedication to his principles: a strong work ethic, respect for democratic ideals, civic pride, optimism and most importantly, love and devotion to his family, who he inspired through example. As a veteran of the Korean War, Don had tremendous pride in his service to our country as a member of the United States Navy Submarine Service. Based in New London, Connecticut he served as an Electronics Technician 3rd Class on the USS Corsair (SS-435). It was while in the Navy that Don met Bev, who was also in the service. Following the Navy he pursued his college degree, graduating from Michigan State University as an electrical engineer. His professional career began with General Electric Company with an eventual transfer that brought his family to Phoenix in 1964. Settling in the Sunnyslope area, he made many contributions to the community serving on a variety of boards including the Arizona State and Rio Verde Horseman's Associations and John C. Lincoln Hospital being among those dearest to his heart. Services will be held Friday, March 27th at 1:00 p.m. Desert Hills Mortuary 6500 E. Bell Road. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Hospice of the Valley/Sherman Home www.hospiceofthevalley.org or John C. Lincoln Hospital.

JOPPRU, William 'Will' C., MM2(SS), USN, 24, Petty Officer William 'Will' C. Joppru, of 260 Old Dalton Road, Hinsdale, died unexpectedly on Tuesday, March 17, at Kings Bay, Ga., serving his country while stationed at the Naval Submarine Support Center in Kings Bay, Ga. Born in Pittsfield, June 27, 1984, the son of Calvin O. and Elizabeth Roberts Joppru of Hinsdale, 'Will' was educated in Kittredge School in Hinsdale, Nessacus Middle School in Dalton, and he was a 2002 graduate of Wahconah Regional High School. He had worked as a carpenter prior to entering the service. In August 2005, Petty Officer Joppru entered active duty in Naval Service. He attended basic training at the Naval Training Center in Great Lakes, Ill. Following completion of basic training, he attended basic enlisted submarine school in Groton, Conn. His first and only duty station was onboard the USS West Virginia (SSBN 736) (Blue), Kings Bay, Ga. He spent three years aboard West Virginia and was one of the most aggressive and proud auxiliarymen onboard. Petty Officer Joppru was honored with several personal awards and decorations which included the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and Global War on Terrorism Medal, as well as the Expert Pistol Medal and Expert Rifle Medal. Will enjoyed hunting, fishing, four wheeling, skiing, snowboarding, traveling, and being with his family and friends. Besides his mother and father of Hinsdale, Will is survived by three sisters, Amanda R. Joppru of Hinsdale, Elizabeth E. Joppru of Hinsdale, and Rebecca R. Connolly, of Pittsfield; his nephew, Carson T. Connolly of Pittsfield; his aunts and uncles, Thomas Roberts of Pittsfield, Charles Johnson of Ely, Minn., Mark Roberts and his wife, Sandra, of Littleton, N.H., and Ron Joppru, who is also his godfather, and his wife, Kathy, of Vernon, Conn.; his aunt, Kate Roberts of Berkeley, Calif.; and many cousins, and other relatives. He was predeceased by his aunt, Trudell Joppru Johnson and by his uncle, Reggie Joppru. FUNERAL NOTICE: A Liturgy of Christian Burial for Petty Officer William 'Will' C. Joppru, who died Tuesday, March 17, 2009 will be conducted Wednesday, March 25, at 10 a.m., at St. Charles Church, celebrated by the Rev. Peter A. Gregory, pastor. Burial will be private. Full Military Honors will be presented for Petty Officer Joppru by the United States Navy outside St. Charles Church immediately following the service. Calling hours will be Tuesday, from 4 to 7 p.m., at DERY FUNERAL HOME in Pittsfield. Memorial donations in memory of Will may be made to the William C. Joppru Memorial Fund to be used for the betterment of Wild Acres, a place where 'Will' enjoyed many days fishing and hiking in care of the Dery Funeral Home, 54 Bradford Street, Pittsfield, MA 01201.

SHEEHY, Edward J., 68, died March 19, 2009, in Knoxville, TN, after a long courageous battle with cancer. Ed was born in Schenectady on October 27, 1941. He was the son of the late John J. and Winifred Molloy Sheehy. He is survived by his daughters, Samantha Sheehy Koeut (Louna), Catherine Sheehy; and their mother, Margaret; his loving grandchildren, Dara and Rhian, all of Norris, TN; his brother, John F. Sheehy (Mary Ann) of Schenectady; and niece, Kathleen Sheehy (Shane Kosinski) of Virginia; along with many cousins. Ed was a 1959 graduate of the former Mt. Pleasant Technical High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Naval Nuclear Submarine Service, serving aboard many vessels including the USS Scorpion (SSN-589). After military service, he graduated from Purdue University in 1970 with an electrical engineering degree. Ed worked in Tennessee, Ohio, Florida, Canada, and Louisiana for major electrical corporations. Ed loved the great outdoors, hunting, fishing and hiking with his dogs. Services will be private at the convenience of the family.
