BAER, Sr., John Edwin "Yogi", 78, went home to be with our Lord and Savior March 22, 2009. John was born in Sinking Springs, Pa., and was the son of the late John Wilson Baer and Laura Hafer. He was a veteran of the United States Navy Submarine Service, serving aboard the USS Torsk, USS Redfin and the USS Sea Lion. After retiring from the Navy in 1968, he went to work for the Norfolk Naval Shipyard where he retired after 18 years. He was a family man with a passion for gardening and fishing. He was preceded in death by his brother, Fred Baer and a sister, Barbara Hilman. Survivors include his loving wife, Mary Nancy Baer; nine children, Rosemary Sanders (Larry), Carol Hickman (Paul), Cheryl Rochester (Ed), John Baer Jr. (Lori), Sharon Wilbanks (Joe), Tony Baer (April), Sherry Hornbrook, Suzette McNeill (Curtis) and Tom Baer. Also surviving are 22 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; his sisters, Jean (Leo) Keller, Marlene Berkstresser, Natalie (Harold) Koehler and Mary Welsh; and a host of relatives and friends. The family will receive friends at H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Laskin Road Chapel, Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. A graveside service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens with military honors. A memorial service celebrating Mr. Baer's life will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday in Faith Bible Church, 372 Nelms Lane, Virginia Beach, VA 23462. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Faith Bible Church Missions. Online condolences may be made to the family at www.hdoliver.com.

JACOB, Mike, 77, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 22, 2009 surrounded by his children. He was born on April 17, 1931 in Tucson AZ. He was a 1949 graduate of Tucson High. After graduation Mike enlisted in the US Navy, a long family tradition were he served in the Pacific Submarine Force. Upon discharge Mike came back to Tucson to attend the U of A, working nights as a bartender in his brothers restaurant "The Club 21". There he met the love of his life "Jeanne", the rest is Tucson history. Together they brought into this world five unique loving children and built a beautiful life together. Mike was an advocate, mentor, father, teacher, a list to in-depth to fill this section. For those of you out there, you are all aware of this mans accomplishments, commitments and endless dedication to his family, the city of Tucson and the states retail/wholesale liquor-beverage industry. He was an eagle scout, Knights of Columbus, Rotarian, Tucson Badger Foundation, USS Tucson SUB Committee. He was a pioneering liquor retailer of the 50s, 60s and 70s and he was recognized by his peers in Las Vegas by the National Liquor Store Retailers Association (NLSA), through Washington, DC as "Retailer of the Year" from the State of Arizona. He was also a founding member and 1st President of the Arizona Licensed Beverage Association (ALBA). Later Mike continued his incredible career as Director of Corporate Affairs for Golden Eagle Distributors for 22 years. Mike was the grassroots operator to start up Tucson Clean and Beautiful, Adopt a Park. Cops, Cats and Kids, High School Drivers Education Safety Awareness and Recycle Tucson, just to name a few. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and veteran. He was a diehard devoted Wildcat fan for 35 years, an avid golfer and a loyal friend. Mike met and fulfilled all of Gods requirements in life to the fullest, selfless community volunteer with pride, dignity and sacrifice like no other man. He was preceded in death by his wife Jeanne, son Tony and grandson, Thomas James. He leaves his sons, Fred and Nicky; daughters, Tina Valacich (Greg) and Robin, all of Tucson; His grandson, Michael, the joy of his life; brothers, John (Cecilia), Jim (Nell), Richard (Barbara); sister, Rose Marie along with 16 nephews and nieces and a Tucson community of friends for over 40 years. "Mr. Tucson Sleep Well" Visitation will be held at ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES-AVALON CHAPEL on Thursday, March 26, 2009 from 5:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. with a Rosary at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, March 27, 2009 1:00 p.m. at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, 8650 N. Shannon Road. Burial will follow at Holy Hope Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Casa De La Luz Hospice, U of A Wildcat club or the Canyon Del Oro H.S. sports scholarship program.
