Interesting for sure. I do believe I have heard of this before.

Here is another... sorry for the size but it is for easier reading. For those of you who haven't much experience reading pre 1800 printed English. The letter that looks like an "f" is an "s". You will note that there is no cross bar on the letter like an "f" does. This is an old Germanic "s" and used when starting or contained with-in a word but not ending a word. So, the word "miss" will look like "mifs". Anyway, enjoy. This is from "The Gentleman's Magazine" from July 1749. The story starts half way down the left column.
