At random: Interests in submarines extends to royalty and presidents. The King of England and the King and Queen of Spain are among those who have made submerged cruises in submarines. As a result of a trip in an early United States submarine, President "Teddy" Roosevelt ordered extra compensation for personnel serving in the "Silent Service." President Harry Truman made a 440 foot dive in a captured German submarine. The first President to cruise aboard a nuclear submarine was President Eisenhower who rode the USS SEAWOLF out of Newport, Rhode Island on September 26, 1957. |

Great Sage of the Sea Posts: 597 Location: Tucson, Arizona | Subject: Interview with Australian Submarine Adm wanna bee General Cosgrove was interviewed on the radio recently. Read his his reply to the lady who interviewed him concerning guns and children. Regardless of how you feel about gun laws you gotta love this! This is one of the best comeback lines of all time. It is a portion of an ABC radio interview between a female broadcaster and General Cosgrove who was about to sponsor a Boy Scout Troop visiting his military Headquarters. FEMALE INTERVIEWER: So, General Cosgrove, what things are you going to teach these young boys when they visit your base? GENERAL COSGROVE: We're going to teach them climbing, canoeing, archery and shooting. FEMALE INTERVIEWER: Shooting! That's a bit irresponsible, isn't it? GENERAL COSGROVE: I don't see why, they'll be properly supervised on the rifle range. FEMALE INTERVIEWER: Don't you admit that this is a terribly dangerous activity to be teaching children? GENERAL COSGROVE: I don't see how. We will be teaching them proper rifle discipline before they even touch a firearm. FEMALE INTERVIEWER: But you're equipping them to become violent killers. GENERAL COSGROVE: Well, Ma'am, you're equipped to be a prostitute, but you're not one, are you? The radiocast went silent for 46 seconds and when it returned, the interview was over. . Besides, the original version of this is credited to an American High Ranking Officer - and I question that as well. It's good for a laugh though! Blue *_*

I have several versions of this on file, most identify LTG Reinwald as a Marine or Army General being interviewed by a National Public Radio (NPR) host on "Morning Edition". Snopes says this is a work of fiction. http://www.snopes.com/military/reinwald.asp But, yeah, it is good for a laugh.

Master and Commander Posts: 2357 | Subject: RE: I'm confused... I think what he meant was that for whatever reason a guy is playing the role of both Father and Mother to their child/ren. I believe there are a couple of guys on here that are single dad's....that the children reside with....which is different to my situation as my children reside with their mother and visit me every so often. There is a huge difference, and Happy 'Mother's' Day to those men! Blue *_*

COMSUBBBS Posts: 2561 Location: Rapid City, SD | Subject: Is that what he meant, Blue? Does that make women 'fathers' when their spouses die? Interesting thought. If that's the case, there are many, many women who we should wish Happy Father's Day to. Cora
