HAVEY, Robert William, 84, led a life of service and commitment to his country, parish, family and local community and now rests quietly in his Father's embrace. Bob joined the US Navy as a submariner at 17. He served during World War II [Sea Raven, Tambor] and fell in love his wife Eleanor, who was attending Mercy's School of Nursing. They settled in Sacramento in 1948. All Hallows Catholic Church became their spiritual home where he participated in a myriad of groups, work projects, and events, serving their parish community for 58 years. Bob also worked for Pacific Telephone Company for over 37 years. As a NorCal transplant, Bob became a avid 49er and Giants fan while still remaining loyal to his love for the Boston Red Sox. Bob celebrated his children's and grandchildren's sporting, artistic and educational events with pride and joy. Bob's outgoing personality allowed him to easily befriend people. He supported the Friends of the Library, the Sacramento Food Bank, the Bunco's softball team, and many other organizations with his generous spirit. He will be missed. Bob leaves his wife Eleanor of 62 years and 6 children - Suzanne (Michael Dodd), Michael, Jim (Carol), Mary Ann (Douglas Wood), Paul and John. He leaves his greatly loved (15) grandchildren, (4) great grandchildren, extended family and many friends. Bob, born in Somerville, MA on December 12, 1924, raised in Weymouth, and also leaves his much loved east coast family: sister Edith, brother-in-law Lloyd Nadell and their children along with his deceased brother Arthur Havey's children and many other relatives.A Rosary will be held at Nicoletti's Funeral Home, 5401 Folsom Blvd., Sunday, May 10 at 4pm, and the funeral will take place at All Hallows Church, 5501 14th Ave., Monday, May 11 at 11 am.In lieu of flowers, please send donations to John Paul II Catholic School, 5700 13th Ave, Sacramento, 95820. So sad, another USS Tambor veteran goes on eternal patrol. Mr. Havey was an EM3c while on the Tambor, just like my grandfather.
