Bernard A. Clark, 88, of Bellows Falls, VT died May 17, 2009, at McGirr Nursing Home. Mr. Clark was born in Saxtons River on November 8, 1920, the son of Albert and Phoebe (Glazier) Clark. He attended grammar school in Saxtons River and was a 1939 graduate of Vermont Academy. He worked at Jones & Lamson in Springfield. During World War II, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy as a submarine torpedoman. After his honorable discharge, he built his shop and opened Clark Plumbing & Heating on Main Street in Saxtons River. He bought land and established Clark Court, where he built his family's home. Mr. Clark was a past commander of the American Legion Post 37 in Bellows Falls, a life member of the King Solomon Temple Lodge 45, a trustee emeritus of Christ's Church in Saxtons River and a past member of the Elks. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Helen (Bennett) Clark of Bellows Falls; his son, Donald B. Clark of Grafton; his daughter, Carolyn A. McAuliffe of Bellows Falls; his sister, Lena Crowley of Claremont, N.H.; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandsons. There will be a celebration of Mr. Clark's life at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 23, 2009, at Christ's Church in Saxtons River.
