At random: The USS Blenny SS 324, on her last patrol of WW II sank 63 vessels. One by torpedo and 62 by deck gunfire, demolition charges set by boarding parties or by burning. On several occasions shotguns were fired through the boats bottoms. These were all vessels under the 500 ton JANAC limit for tonnage sunk and not counted in the "official" totals or ships sunk. This is also a record for the most vessels ever sunk by a submarine on one patrol.

I posted this on Rontini's BBS too.

I was thinking back to my previous life as a slave...er oiler, in the enginerooms of Sirago and later as a throttleman. With all the dives and surfaces we made and all the times you lined up the engines to lite off, whether surfacing or snorkling, how many of you old snipes can remember the procedure you followed prior to 'rolling em over'.

One thing slips my mind. After kicking in the fuel racks, at what pressure did we let the back pressure build up before we opened the outboard exhaust valve?

No cheating by looking it up somewhere. Take it from the brains hard drive.

Joe, can't say I ever really looked at a pressure gage. On the FM, when that sucker fired, I reached over and pulled the exhaust valve actuator, even on snorkel.
