William H. Hyatt, Jr., CPO, USN Ret., 72, of Goose Creek, SC, died Sunday, May 31, 2009, in a local hospital. Born April 13, 1937 in McColl, SC he was the son of William Howard Hyatt and Louise Bullard Hyatt. Following his naval career, he was employed by Gore Manufacturing and retired from the Navy Exchange in 1992. Mr. Hyatt was a Life Member of the United States Submarine Veterans Association and The National Association of Destroyer Veterans. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy E. Hyatt of 17 years, of Goose Creek, SC; children, Donna Hyatt, Lloyd Hyatt, Deb Hyatt and Sheryl Monk; step-daughter, Maryanne Harward; step-sons, Stephen Gordon, Arthur Gordon and Keith Gordon; 13 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his graveside service Friday, June 5, 2009, at Dorchester Memory Gardens at 3:00 p.m. with military honors. Arrangements by J. PEARSON, Tuthill Menoher, 88, of Greenwich, CT died in Greenwich Hospital on May 15, 2009 after a brief illness. "Pete," was born on the Fort Huachuca Army Base in Southern Arizona. He was the son of General Pearson Menoher and Genevieve Tuthill, and grandson of General Charles T. Menoher and Nannie W. Pearson. Pearson spent his youth in Arizona, Leavenworth, Kansas, and Carmel, California. Pearson received a BS degree from the University of California, Berkeley, where he studied mechanical and metallurgical engineering. Shortly after graduation in 1942, he joined the US Navy Submarine Service as a Junior Officer and was assigned to the USS Kingfish (SS-234), which patrolled in the North Pacific throughout World War II. He left active service in 1946 as a Lieutenant JG, but remained in the Naval Reserve. In 1963, Pearson was promoted to the rank of Commander in the Naval Reserve and retired from military service in 1981. In 1946 Pearson joined the Owens-Illinois Company in Oakland, CA; a working relationship that was to last for 44 years. He became an expert in the art and science of glass manufacture, producing numerous inventions and patents. He retired from Owens-Illinois in 1990. He built his own darkroom and observatory on the grounds of his home, fabricated the optics for his own astronomy telescope, and for a time was a President of the Fairfield County Astronomical Society, Stamford Branch. His lifelong interest in Archaeology and Native American culture prompted him to return to school and obtain an Associate Degree from Norwalk Community College, then become a licensed Archaeologist in the State of Connecticut. Pearson is survived by Janet, his wife of 54 years, and his children: Lynn Seidenberg, Exeter, NH and Marcia Young, Bryn Mawr, PA, daughters from a previous marriage; Jeffrey, Redding, CT; Laura, Venice, CA; Charles, Greenwich, CT; Keith, Los Angeles, CA; and Gregory, New Orleans, LA. Mr. Menoher is also survived by seven grandchildren and one great grandchild. No plans for a memorial service have been set. KOSCINSKI, Mitchell P., 85, of Beachwood, passed away Sunday, May 31, 2009. Mitchell was born and raised in Plainfield, where he lived until moving to Beachwood 36 years ago. He served his country in the US Navy during World War II as machinist submariner [Haddo, Guardfish] and remained an active South Toms River V.F.W. member. Mitchell was a 30 year veteran of the Plainfield Fire Dept., retiring as a captain and then served as a security officer at Community Medical Center, Toms River for 20 years. He was also a member of the Retired Police and Fire Association. Surviving are his wife, Amelia "Millie"; son, Mark (Martha) of Montana; daughter, Jan Starner (Ron) of Cranford; and grandson, Josh Starner. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, June 4, with funeral service at 8 p.m. at the Carmona-Bolen Home For Funerals 412 Main St., Toms River. Cremation will be private. Tilden F (Mac) McCommas, 67, of 1 Elm Court in St. Peters, MO, formerly of Plainfield, CT died unexpectedly Thursday, May 28, 2009 at Barnes-Jewish Hospital. He was born July 5, 1941 in Excelsior Springs, MO. His parents were the late Ray F. McCommas and Mabel Mc-Commas, of Branson, MO, who survives him. Mr. McCommas was a veteran of the United States Navy, serving mostly as a submariner. He graduated in 1969 from Eastern Connecticut State University, with a Bachelors Degree in Biology. In 1977 he co-founded Eastern Aqua-nalysis, an environmental laboratory, where he was the laboratory director. He retired in 1996. Mr. McCommas was a past president of the Danielson Rotary Club, and in 1995 received Rotary's highest award, the Paul Harris Fellowship Award. He was the brother of Dr. Donald Crowley and his wife Alice, also of Branson. Mr. McCommas was married May 28, 1977 to his wife Karen, who survives him. He is survived by his son, John McCommas and partner Julio Nieves of Willimantic, CT, and daughters Sheila Morgan (Scott), of Pittsfield, NH, Jennifer LeDuc (Richard) of Putnam, CT, and Shelley Shabenas (James) of Plainfield, CT. His greatest joys were his grandchildren, Adam Shabenas (Jade) of Crestview, FL, Jacob, Zachary, and Nickolas Shabenas of Plainfield, CT, and his granddaughters, Madeline and Sophia LeDuc of Putnam, CT. Following cremation, private arrangements will be made at the convenience of his family.
