Groton - Charles R. Kosloskey, 81, of Spicer Ave., in Groton, passed away on Sunday, June 7, 2009, at his home. Born on July 11, 1927, in Sault Ste. Marie Ontario, he was the son of the late Barbara (Schnieder) and Reynolds Kosloskey. A man of many talents and acquaintances, he was also known by many names, Charles, Charlie, Chuck and Ski. Charlie retired from the Navy as a Senior Chief in 1969. During his naval career of 25 years, he served on many boats including the Becuna, Patrick Henry and the Triton. Following retirement from the Navy, he worked briefly for Food Fair, then spent 24 years with Electric Boat in Groton. Charlie also had a true love for the Groton Community, which involved him in many community services and endeavors. He held several posts and memberships including Chairman of the Board of Seabird Enterprises, former president of the Southeast Area Transit (SEAT), life long member of the Pioneer Hose Company in Groton, former president of the Fleet Reserve Assoc., the Holland Club and the Groton Lodge of Elks. He was also a member of the Ledge Light Board, Submarine Veterans of World War II, and life long member of the Groton Republican Committee. He had served on the Groton RTM and served several years on both the Groton Town and City Councils. He was also a member of the Sacred Heart Church where he had served as a Eucharistic Minister. Married to Marie (Rivet) on May 2, 1949, in Sault Ste. Marie, Charlie is also survived by his three children, Janet and Tim Mattern of Detroit, Mich., Christian Kosloskey of New London, Andrew and Paulette Kosloskey of Gales Ferry; seven grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. He had also been predeceased by a son, Charles D. Kosloskey. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 11, at the Sacred Heart Church, Sacred Heart Drive in Groton. Burial with military honors will follow in the Colonel Ledyard Cemetery, Groton. Visiting hours will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday at the Byles-Groton Memorial Home, 310 Thames St., Groton. In lieu of flowers, friends are encouraged to send a donation to Seabird Enterprises, 169 Thames St., Groton, 06340 www.seabirdenterprises@snet.net or to the Sacred Heart Church, Sacred Heart Dr., Groton.
