Lionel A. Cyr, 83, of Chicopee and formerly of Holyoke, died Saturday, June 6, 2009 at the Brigham & Women's Hospital in Boston. Born in Holyoke on February 4, 1926, he was the son of the late Leo and Julienne (Giroux) Cyr. Lionel was a U.S. Navy Veteran and served for nine years during WW II and the Korean War. He was a diesel engineer aboard the submarine, the USS Sea Owl (SS-405). Lionel worked as a self-employed plumber, and was one of the first licensed Master Plumber in the State of Mass.. The brother of the late Norman, Gerard and Roy Cyr, he is survived by his two sons, David R. Cyr of Granby and Craig M. Cyr of Lexington, five grandchildren, three brothers, Donald Cyr of Lebanon, CT, and Francis and Richard Cyr both of South Hadley, two sisters, Annette Geoffrion of Chicopee and Jacqueline Buss of Maine, as well as many nieces and nephews. Calling Hours for Lionel will be on Monday, June 15, from 11am - 1pm in the Ryder Funeral Home, 33 Lamb St., South Hadley. A Service of Remembrance will follow in the funeral home at 1pm. Following the service, the procession will leave for the Mass. Veterans' Memorial Cemetery on Main St., Agawam for concluding prayers and military honors in the cemetery chapel at 3pm. Thomas (Todd) Hawkins, II, CPO, USN, Ret., passed away April 26, 2009, at his home in Dublin, Georgia. Born in Washington, D.C., January 3, 1951, he was raised in Catholic faith. He served 31 years in the Navy, mostly aboard the USS Blueboy, a nuclear submarine. And a few years as a nuclear instructor. Beloved husband of Keturah (Kitty) Burgess Hawkins, father of Cristina Maria and Thomas (Todd) Hawkins, III. The children are from his first marriage to Paulette Basil Hawkins, who passed away June 1976, 3 years and 2 months after her marriage to Todd. She was buried from the same Catholic Church she was married in. Beloved son of Harriet H. bell and devoted step-son of Edwin F. Bell of Crofton, Md. Beloved grandson of the late Carl S. and Harriett B. Welch of Washington, D.C. He leaves his beloved mother-in-law, Bonnie Burgess of Shermpert, Georgia, and devoted friend, C.R. Horton. Arrangements were made by ADAMS FUNERAL HOME, Dublin, Ga., with full military honors at Glenville Veterans Cemetery, in Dublin, Ga. Edward H. SHERMAN, 85, of Fort Wayne, passed away Monday, June 8, 2009, at his home. Born in New York City, N.Y., he worked as an electrical engineer and reliability manager for Magnavox for 27 years, retiring in 1989. He served as an Electronic Technician First Class, in the US Navy Submarine Service, during World War II. He was a member of Trinity English Lutheran Church. Surviving are his wife, Joan Sherman of Fort Wayne; sons, Gary (Deb) Sherman of St. Louis, Mo., Steven (Peggy) Sherman of Tucson, Ariz.; daughters, Linda (Rick) Dumford of Fort Wayne, Donna (Dan) Strahm of Craigville, Ind., Barbara (Bino) Hernandez and Cynthia (Dave) Robertson, both of Fort Wayne; sister, Nancy Rand of Farmingdale, N.Y.; grandchildren, Brian Dumford, Craig Dumford, Michelle Dumford, Randy Harris, Ryan Harris, Megan Simerman, Jeremy Strahm, Darlene Edleman, Jennifer Sherman, Stefani Sherman, Matt Sherman, Donald Sherman, Michael Robertson, Andrea Pearson, and Gregory Sarver; 23 great-grandchildren.
