MCGUIRE, Fred, died Thursday, June 4, 2009. He was the son of William and Willadean McGuire of Chester, IL. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Doreen Pelkey McGuire his mother Willadean McGuire and three children , Beth (Bob) Martin, Mick (Cheryl) McGuire and Carol (Jim) Gidus; ten grandchildren; and one Great grandchild. He was a retired naval chief in the submarine service. He spent many years serving the community as a dedicated Mason, Shriner , member of the BPOE, the VFW, Moose lodge and was an active member of the Subvets. He also enjoyed traveling with his RV group. Memorial services are to be held at Oviedo Presbyterian Church 2405 Lockwood Blvd. Oviedo, 407-366-2544 on June 18 at 10:30, with Fr. Jorge Torres as celebrant. He will be interred at Florida National Cemetery after the service. RUMA, Francis T. (Frank), 88, a resident of Laughlin, NV died June 8, 2009 at his home. Sailor, rest your oar. He was born November 18, 1920 in St. Louis, MO and lived in Roseville, MI for 40 years. He served in the US Navy Submarine Service in WW II as Torpedoman First Class, and retired from the US Navy as a Chief Petty Officer in 1963. He was a member of Pearl Harbor Survivors, US Submarine Veterans WW II, US Navy Chief Petty Officer's Organization, VFW, 3M Retirees Association, Sacred Heart and later St. Donald's Catholic parishes, and past Grand Knight of Fr. Solanus Casey K of C in Roseville. He is survived by wife Evelyn (and her children Debbie, Greg and 1 grandchild); and his six children from his first wife of 47 years, Laura (Leible) from whom he widowed in 1992, James (Delores), F. (John) Hobbs, Ronald, John (Debra), Vincent (Lenora) and Donald (Denise); 12 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Visitation, Friday 3-9 p.m. at Walter Scott Skupny Funeral Home, 28605 Gratiot, Roseville, MI. In state memorial service: Saturday 10:00 a.m. at the Funeral Home. Service lead by his family with Military Honor Guard. Donations to The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

HAIG, Edward James "Jim", 83, is now on eternal patrol with Jesus. Born in Venice, California. He was a graduate of Jones Valley High School and Jefferson State College, US Navy Submarine Veteran, with two years duty aboard the USS Stingray (SS-186); retired as a Lieutenant, after 30 years of service with the Birmingham Police Department. Jim was a member of Forestdale Baptist Church and the men's Sunday School Class. Jim is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Audrey Rollins Haig; son, James "Kenny" (Joan) Haig; daughter, Carol (Tom) Felton; granddaughters, Julie (Tyler) Jones and Lisa Felton; and brother-in-law, Robert Rollins. Visitation will be held at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home on Friday, June 12, 2009 from 10:00AM-11:00AM. Graveside services will follow in Jefferson Memorial Gardens East at 11:00 AM. The family wishes to thank New Beacon Hospice and Dr. John Dumas for their loving care of our "Pop". In lieu of flowers, please send memorials to Forestdale Baptist Church 1400 Brisbane Ave. Birmingham, AL 35214.
