At random: The Grampus and Pike were commissioned in ceremonies at Mare Island the same day, Thursday, the 28th of May 1903. A young naval officer, Lieutenant Arthur MacArthur III, older brother of General Douglas MacArthur, assumed command for both vessels at the same time.

I have a very dear friend who served in Viet Nam from '70-'73, as a helicopter pilot, first flying Huey's for medi-evac's and then as an Apache pilot.  I sent him "good wishes" today...but know that I won't hear from him for a bit.  He's a professional photographer...and
is probably out doing what he does best...photographing aircraft...helicopters, to be exact.
