That's SSMC member Dickson Dorr braving the cold as we paused near the top of a mountain pass near Mt. Rainier on Hwy 410.  It was sunny and warm on the east side as we took our 280 mile ride to get a good hamburger!

And you want me to ride out there for the "ride through the mountains?" I get six months of that white stuff here and we sure can't ride through it. Just kidding, can't wait to make that ride and see all the sights.
Was that hamburger as good as what you got at the Daly Burger?

Daly's original 'burger joint on Eastlake was a great 'burger but when they remodeled and started to expand to other locations they lost the little something that made them great. I have one every once in a while but they aren't the same as the old Daly's. I think they changed where they got their meat from and the quantity they buy it in.

Snow is a 4 letter word much like heat is. This morning at 0630 it was 80f here in Charleston with humidity to match. I've got a gut feeling that the high winds will blow in a few weeks to the tune of a jim-dandy hurricane.

Doc, I think I only had one or two Daly burgers in my whole life!  The coney island was my fave for sure - ate hundreds of them. The burger was outstanding on the ride but the main lesson learned was "one order of fries per table"....  Here's a link to the place: http://www.flickr.com/photos/svensk/sets/531498/

We have some other pix up on our FaceBook site: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Silent-Service-Motorcycle-Club/91609112260?ref=mf

On the way home, I spotted a "foot long coney island" sign in the older part of Ellensburg... I'm going back  to check it out before the summer's out!

Here's a pic of the "SSMC four"... that's me to the left, then Bob Opple, the founder and grand poobah, Ken Board, our vp and Road Captain and Tim Floersch, the secretary with "not so great" legs!

This was the first event the four of us could get together for since we founded the club!

I just noticed that the "Road Captain" is a Corpsman. Seems fitting that a "Doc" would have to tend to those who fall off when not paying attention. Patti better pay close attention when she rides on the back of Don's bike. If he's wearing that famous T-Shirt then she better be real nice to the Road Captain

The SSMC Pres Bob Opple has a Schnauzer named Harley.  Used to bring him down to the old Rusty Ruskie when she was here in Seattle and he was docenting aboard.  I'm sensing a trend...

Bob brought Harley up to Smoky Point for the free Coffee Give-away Seattle base did. I relieved both Sunday morning.

L to R: Harley, Bob Opple, Steve Shelton; Smoky Point Rest Area. The Base gave coffee and cookies away for free to tired drivers and truckers. Took in a ton on donations for the base coffers.

...Rapid City is on I-90, between from (wherever you live in Michigan) and Seattle. Is Patti coming with you? Is Don giving her a ride, too? Are you both going to Sturgis this year? I keep asking Don if he's coming back here this year. He keeps not answering me.

Inquiring minds want to know....everything.

Washington State is one of the few states to offer organizations an opportunity to do some community service and spread the word and also collect donations. The days are by a lottery and you have to get your name in about a year in advance of when you what to do it. You make out a wish list. Normally the time frame runs from 1400 to 1300 the third day, (Example: say you get a 2 day slot, Monday 1400 to Wednesday 1300). You are manning the location 24 hours a day. This year we lucked out and got 1400 Friday to 1300 Monday. Weekends are an extra day. Some people give nothing. ( the Chinese are terrible on giving, they just don't get it ), some folks drop a dollar or two. Some truckers drop a 5 sometimes a 20. This year I know we got one slug and and a old silver plated bracelet minus most of its plate among the donations. We also get a small amount of Canadian money which is OK since they are our neighbors and only a few miles away. We just find some who is heading north and sell them the money.

Many truckers coming thru say that in our neck of the woods, only Washington and Idaho do this and they are grateful. This was our 4th year doing this. Pretty much pays for our Christmas luncheon in December.

John Garry and I would like to congratulate Bob Opple, the GRAND PUHBAH of SSMC, on entering the Holland Club this year.  We just received our latest issue of the "American Submariner" and there it was...his name among the many Submariners who were inducted this year.  KUDO'S BOB!!!
