My niece, Heather, is deploying to Afghanistan as part of the latest surge.
She is regular Air Force and is going to work in an office on the Air base. But since she will be in a war zone, she spent several weeks with the US Army getting combat, small arms, first aid, and survival training.
We had a send off party on Father’s Day. It was strange to hear a lady talking like some gung ho guy. But hey, she loves it.
Call me old fashion, but I do not like the idea of females being in or near combat. Especially, if they could become a POW.
Anyway, please keep her in your thoughts and prayers.

We will keep her in our daily thoughts and prayers, as we keep "all of them" there every day.
Yes, it is very difficult to comprehend our women going into combat zones, but it is a different time,
they are well trained...and if she is as "gung ho" as you have related, I think she will do fine, but
it still doesn't make it any easier for you as her uncle...but I'm sure she will have a few "good men"
looking out for her, too!

She will be in my prayers each day. I'm with you, I don't like the idea of women being so close to the action but I wish no one had to be in any action.

Good luck to you niece mate, I am sure all will be fine.
Especially if she is near where a mate is stationed. He is a catering manager ( I think ) 'somewhere' in Afghanistan.....he is a Shipmate of mine from days gone by, a Cook.
Actually, is she comes across an Aussie called Sean who was a Submariner, tell her to watch out! lol

Mate, you should have realised by now that all the cooks in the Squadron were my best mates, and vice a versa.....because I always went back for seconds!

You have every right to be proud and grateful that your family produces such responsible people who recognize implied obligation and undertake to discharge that obligation with meaningful service.
