Gerard "Gerry" Andrew Dvorsky, 84, of Lee's Summit, Mo., passed away Saturday, June 20, 2009. He was born in Duquesne, Pa., on March 12, 1925, the son of Andrew and Anna (Kosik) Dvorsky. He graduated from Duquesne High School in 1943 and enlisted in the United States Navy. He served on the USS Charr (SS-328)) with his beloved submarine group during World War II. After his Navy service, he attended and graduated from Vanderbilt University. Gerry was an avid photographer, gardener and a member of the National Audubon Society. He is survived by his trusty companion, Zach the cat; three sons, Garret "Butch" (Cindy) of Suwanee, Ga., Christopher of Olathe, and Andrew (Suzanne) of Overland Park; nieces, Susan (Tae) Kim of Lee's Summit, Lynn Vargo of Lee's Summit; two great nephews; and five grandchildren. A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 27, 2009, at the R.L. Leintz Funeral Home, 4701 10th Ave., Leavenworth, KS 66048. Friends may call on the family one hour prior to the service at the funeral home chapel. Burial with Navy honors will be at 10 a.m. Monday, June 29, 2009, at Leavenworth National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to The National Audubon Society or the Salvation Army.
