Charles J. Williams, 83, of Clovis, New Mexico, died Wednesday, June 10, 2009, at Plains Regional Medical Center in Clovis. He was born February 12, 1926, to Glen and Lillie (Tunnell) Williams. Charles joined the Navy after his 18th birthday and had to leave for boot camp right after graduation. December 5, 1944, he married his high school sweetheart, May Lea Morse, at her parent's home east of Grady. Their first home was New London, Connecticut where he trained for the Submarine Service. He served in the Philippines until 1946, when he returned to Grady to farm. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, The Men's Bible Class, and Farm Bureau. He served on the ASCS Curry County Committee, Farmers Coop Elevator Board and Grady School Board. Charles was a devoted husband for 63 years, loving father, and wonderful grandfather. He is survived by 3 children, David Williams (Connie) of Clovis, Jim Williams (DeDe) of Buena Vista, Colorado, and Deborah Williams of Clovis; 8 grandchildren, Amanda Mitchell (Dave) of Farwell, Texas, Heather Ellis (Greg) and Michael Williams all of Longmont, Colorado, Laurel Dibble (Tom) of Los Angeles, California, Rob Williams (Kami) of Buena Vista, Colorado, Jennifer Williams of Clovis, Dayna Williams and Todd Williams (Adrienne) all of Plano, Texas; 8 great-grandchildren, Lydia, John, and Luke Mitchell, Alli, Reese, Jackson, and Taylor Williams, and Sophie Dibble; sisters, JoAnn (Billy Neil) Williams, Wanda Horton, and sister-in-law, Naomi Williams, all of Clovis, and a brother-¬in-law, Earl Blackwell of Dallas, Texas. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife; his brothers, Jack Williams and James Williams; his sister, Glenda Blackwell, and a great granddaughter, Lucy Dibble.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm Tuesday, June, 30 2009, at First United Methodist Church in Clovis, New Mexico with Rev. Harry Riser officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Grady Alumni Scholarship Fund (C/O Wanda Page - 3875 CR O, Grady, New Mexico 88120) or the Grady Cemetery Fund (C/O Suzy Powell- 4102 CR P, Grady, New Mexico 88120). Ely, John Andreas 1924 - 2009, of Woodbury, MN died on Wednesday, June 24, 2009. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Margaret Uppgren Ely; his daughters, Laura, Carol and Martha; and his grandchildren, and great grandchildren. John attended Macalester College, served on the submarine USS Bowfin (SS-287) during WWII and was a member of the Bowfin crew on its historic 9th patrol. John was graduated from the University of Minnesota and worked for 51 years in the cattle business in So. St. Paul. There will be a family service at a later date in Mauston, WI.

Bales, Joseph E., Friday, June 26, 2009. Joe's life experiences provided him with a full life which included two years of Bible College, several months of missionary work on Indian Reservations, six years in U.S. Navy on a nuclear submarine, driving the St. Louis Bookmobile, driving a taxi cab, security guard for Allied Security, and a missile inspector for Boeing. He loved and enjoyed his various roles during his working career. Beloved husband of the late Wilma C. Bales (nee Culbertson); dear father of Kristi Lyn Bales; dear step-father of David C. and Alan C. Schuchardt; dear brother of Grace (Nick) Pandolfo, Bill (Barb) Bales and Ed (Gail) Bales; our dear brother-in-law, uncle, great-uncle, cousin and friend to many. The family would like to thank the staff at Bentley's Extended Care for their loving kindness. Services: Memorial service at ORTMANN'S 9222 Lackland, Overland, Thurs., July 2, 7:00 pm. Interment Riverview Cemetery, Louisiana, MO. Memorial contributions may be made to Bentley's Extended Care Activity Fund, 3060 Ashby Rd., St. Louis, MO 63114. Visitation 5-7 p.m. Thursday.

Paul Wade Akers, 72, Norfolk, VA, passed away Wednesday, June 24, 2009. Born in Dwale, Floyd County, Kentucky, he was very proud to serve in the United States Navy as a submariner for more than 23 years. Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife, Bernice Slone Akers; his son, Brian K. Akers of Fallbrook, Calif.; and a great-granddaughter, Vesper Akers of New York State. He was preceded in death by his twin children, Sandra Kay and Michael Ray Akers, and a son, Gene Paul Akers. Burial will be held at a later date in his hometown in Kentucky. H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Norfolk Chapel, is handling arrangements. Online condolences may be offered to the family through hdoliver.com.
