Jack "B." Peters, 79, of Los Osos, was born in Van Buren, Ark., and passed away Friday, June 12, 2009, at a local hospital. At an early age, the family moved to Hanford, Calif. Jack excelled in track and field, and after high school graduation in 1949 he enlisted in the U.S. Army. Shortly thereafter, Jack was transferred to the U.S. Navy for basic training in San Francisco. Upon completion, he was stationed aboard the U.S.S. Sea Devil, a SS-400 class submarine. He was honorably discharged in 1954 and returned to Hanford where he became a police officer. In 1956, Jack became a California Highway Patrol (CHP) officer and in that same year, married Shirley E. Yocum. In 1961, Jack was transferred to the San Luis Obispo County CHP division and moved his family to Morro Bay. In 1962, the family bought the Fish Bowl Restaurant on the Embarcadero. During the mid-60''s, Jack helped in the building of his dream boat, a 63-foot wood schooner, the "Majestic Schwann." Many days were spent by Jack and his family and friends sailing the waters off Morro Bay. Jack retired from the CHP in 1972 and spent time on his ranch in Creston and traveling. He was known for his deep, baritone voice, entertaining stories and wonderful generosity. Jack was a long time member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Masons, Shriners and the Fraternal Order of Eagles. Jack leaves his sons Ken (Diannha) and Greg. He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Shirley; sister, Dorothy; and brothers Jimmy and Jesse. The Morro Bay Fraternal Order of Eagles No. 3693 will hold a pot luck in Jack''s honor at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 1, 2009, 2988 Main St. in Morro Bay.

James Martin Neal, "Old Man", passed away following a sudden illness on Saturday, July 4th 2009 at the Ocala Regional West Marion Medical Center in Ocala, Fl. He was 76 years old. Mr. Neal was a life time resident of Williston. He owned and operated J&J Heavy Equipment Repair. He worked with Ring Power and V.E.W. for many years. He served in the United States Navy as a Submariner serving on the USS Pickerel. He was an avid hunter, a huge Gator football fan and a devoted family man. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Williston, he sang in the Church choir and was a deacon for over 30 years. James was preceded in death by his parents: Byron and Algie Neal and his sister: Joy Neal Williams. He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years: Carolyn Neal, his 3 sons: James Ray "Jamie" Neal and his wife Darlene, Richard Neal and his wife Holly, David Neal and his wife Dr. Debbie Hoskins, 1 sister: Ann Arnau and her husband Lu, a brother in law: Tom Daniel and his wife Diane, sister in law: Frances Daniel Breton and her husband Dave, 6 grandchildren: Brendon, Evan, Ethen, Chandler, Connor, Calista, several aunts and other relatives. Visitation will be held from 6:00 - 8:00 pm on Wednesday, July 8, 2009 at the Knauff Funeral Home in Williston. Funeral services will be held at the First Baptist Church of Williston at 11:00 am on Thursday, July 9, 2009 with Reverends Travis Hudson and Tony Clubb officiating. Burial will follow at Orange Hill cemetery. Arrangements are under the care of Knauff Funeral Home Williston (352)528-3481.

James D. Tiger November 3, 1938 - July 4, 2009 SUBLIMITY - Jim Tiger died peacefully at his home in Sublimity on the morning of July 4. He was born November 3, 1938 to Dewitt and Vurna Tiger in Okmulgee County, Oklahoma. He attended Wilson grade school before moving to Oregon when he was eight. He graduated from Stayton High School in 1956 and from the University of Oregon in 1960. He then entered Officer Candidate School and served in the Navy for 7 years as a submariner on the U.S.S. James K. Polk and the U.S.S. Queenfish. He graduated from the University of Oregon Law School in 1971 and returned to Stayton to join the law firm of Duncan & Duncan, now Duncan, Tiger & Niegel, where he practiced law for 38 years. Jim married Edie Elledge in 1972. He is survived by his wife, Edie; and his children, daughters, Kathy (Scott) Pons of Roseburg, Tammy (Dan) Nichol of Beaverton, and Jennifer (Chad) Niegel of Stayton; and son, Paul (Jaime) Tiger of New York City. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Joanie (Josh) Liddell, Kelly (Ryan) Bryant, Christine and Jessie Pons, Danielle and Kevin Nichol, Ryan and Eric Niegel; and great-grandson, Blake Bryant. Other survivors include his brother, George Tiger; and sisters, Wynona Farris, Helen Collins, Betty Miller, Lori Davis, Peggy Spitz, Wanda Van Gulik, Carolyn Beebe, and Susan Kuhnle. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Mary Winter. He was a founding member of Stayton Area Rotary, a Stayton Roadrunner, a Marion County Master Gardener and a member of the Marion County Bar Association. He loved the Stayton community. He founded the Stayton youth basketball league on behalf of Rotary in 1982. He coached youth basketball, baseball and soccer. He was named Rotarian of the Year in 1985 and again in 1996. He was recognized as Stayton's First Citizen in 1988. He established the Stayton High School Community Grant program in 2001. He loved spending time with his family, gardening, running, and following the Oregon Ducks. He was an avid researcher of the McGill and Tiger genealogy, celebrating his Creek Indian and Scotch-Irish heritage. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Jim Tiger Memorial Scholarship in care of West Coast Bank. Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 9 at Stayton High School Auditorium. Arrangements are by Weddle Funeral Home.

Raymond E. Hunter, 79, of Tupelo, Miss., died July 4, 2009, at his residence In Tupelo after an extended illness. He was born April 23 1930, in Northport, Ala. to the late Clarence Haloy Hunter and Isabella Chriswell Hunter. He grew up in Tuscaloosa and graduated from high school there. He served In the U.S. Navy in the post World War II era as a Submariner and diver. In 1969, he and his family moved to Tupelo, Miss. where he purchased the local Volkswagen dealership, the former Earl Glass Motor Company. He and his brother, Victor, later formed Hunter Automotive becoming the area Mazda dealer in 1973, and adding the Hyundai line in 1991. Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday from the Tupelo Chapel of Holland-Harris Funeral Directors with Bro. Danny Rushing officiating and with military honors. A private burial will follow in Tupelo Memorial Gardens. Holland-Harris Funeral Directors is in charge of the arrangements. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today and one hour prior to services on Wednesday. Memorials may be made to the All Care Hospice, 144 South Thomas St. Tupelo, MS 38801, or to the Sanctuary Hospice House, P0, Box 2177, Tupelo, MS 38802.
