Linwood Vernon Harris, Sr. Georgetown resident Linwood Vernon Harris, 83, died July 6, 2009. Mr. Harris was born December 4, 1925, and was a native of Mt. Gilead, North Carolina. He was a Navy veteran of WWII, serving on the USS Trepang (SS-412). Vern was an active member of the Central Texas Base Submarine Club. He retired from the original Motorola Semiconductor Division after 23 years of service. JoAnn (Ingold) Harris, his wife of 60 years, survives him. Vern is also survived by his children, Vernon and wife Joan of Georgetown, Texas, Scott and wife Toni of Germantown, Tennessee, and Jennifer and husband Alan Ladd of The Colony Texas. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Grey Harris, Adron and Emily Elders, Bryan Roswell, Logan Harris and greatgrandson, Luke Roswell. A memorial service will be held in Georgetown at St. John's Methodist Church on July 9, 2009 at 3:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Submarine Memorial Fund at: C/O Ray Wilgeroth. Barney Mauro, 81, passed away on Sunday, July 5, 2009, at Lampstand Health Center in Bryan. Mr. Mauro was born on August 7, 1927 in Houston. He was a lifelong resident of Bryan. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII on the submarine, USS Tilefish (SS-307). He was retired owner of The Jewelry Store. Mr. Mauro served as Past-President of the Bryan Jaycee's. He was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church. Mr. Mauro was preceded in death by his second wife, Mary Ann Mauro, parents, Dominic and Mary (Cash) Mauro, and a brother, Frank Mauro. Survivors include his children; son, Don Mauro (Kathy); daughter, Sherry Mauro; son, Robert Mauro (Laura); daughter, Debra Henson (Charlie); son, Richard Mauro (Lorrie); former wife, Margaret Ann Mauro; step-daughter, Michelle Colwell (Robby); sister, Angie Scarmardo (M.J. "Red"); sister-in-law, Louise Mauro Strauch; and 12 grandchildren. Visitation will be from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Friday, July 10, at Memorial Funeral Chapel in Bryan with a rosary at 7 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 11, at St. Anthony's Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
