HULTGREN, Jr., Harry Waldemar, 91, died July 7, 2009. Harry was the son of the late Pauline Leist Hultgren and Harry Waldemar Hultgren, Sr. He was born July 30, 1917 in New Britain but spent most of his life in West Hartford. He was a graduate of William H. Hall High School and Bowdoin College (Brunswick, ME) with a degree in Economics. He missed his college graduation to join the Naval Reserve as a Midshipman in 1941. He served in the Pacific theater including India and Western Australia during World War II until 1945 (as a Lieutenant Commander) primarily in submarine duty. He served on the USS Narwhal, USS Bowfin and USS Carbonaro. After the war Harry graduated from UCONN Law School and went on to serve as a lawyer in private practice, in the US Attorney's Office, where he was the US Attorney General in Connecticut from 1958– 1961, and later as an Assistant Attorney for the State of CT. Harry married Jean Hamilton of Yonkers, NY in 1944 and they were married for 60 years until her death in 2005. In addition to enjoying his family and career, he was an avid golfer and was a member of the Farmington Country Club and then later a member of Rockledge Golf Club in West Hartford for many years. Harry is survived by three children, Diane H. Bennett of West Hartford, Lance R. Hultgren of West Hartford, and Philip B. Hultgren of Erie, PA. He leaves five grandchildren, Laura B. DeGennaro and her husband, Sam, Ingrid H. Camill and her husband, Todd, Lance Blake Hultgren and Bob and Erik Hultgren. Also three great grandchildren, Joe and Jenna DeGennaro and Dominic Camill. Harry also leaves behind his sister, Marjorie Bolton of Plymouth, NH and his nieces and nephews, Shaughn, Lynn, Peter and Bill, Jr. Bolton and their families. At Harry's request there will be no funeral services and the family will celebrate his life privately. Taylor and Modeen Funeral Home, West Hartford has care of arrangements. Donations may be made in his memory to Bowdoin College, 4100 College Station, Brunswick, ME 04011.
