During a steam trap survey not too far from the Naval Air Station in Kingsville, we found a small duckling in a tank containment. Curtis, my co worker caught the little fellow and put him in a box, planning on letting him loose in a nearby pond to keep the cats and snakes from getting the thing. We drove to the edge of a large pond on the site and turned the little duck loose at the edge of the water. He happily started paddling away.....He didn't get 3 feet before a large catfish nailed him!

I didn't tell Curtis about the baby dove I saw about an hour later.

Nature.....sure can be cruel at times, but, life goes on. We had and are having a bumper crop of ducklings and goslings on the pond out back. One 3' gator is having a time thinning the pack. It looks like it only takes what it needs, so, we let nature do its thing.
