At random: The late Capt. Don Ulmer, USN SS (Ret.), and noted submarine author, began his military career by enlisting in the U.S. Navy in 1947 and in 1949 while serving as an electrical technician E-4 aboard the submarine USS Clamagore, he was transferred to the Naval Academy. When he asked his commanding officer why he was being sent to Annapolis, the skipper replied, "I don't think you're smart enough to make E-5 and I need the bunk space." Ulmer graduated in 1954 and in 1967 returned to command Clamagore, possibly the only officer to command a U.S. warship having served on it as an enlisted man.

Had a great time with my brother. We haven't been just the two of us together in years. Nice time. Here is a little boat ride we took yesterday. Damn weather was only in the mid 80's.

This came by as we were out tooling around in the boat.

Another one, kinda artsy

... a real rhubarb pie with out all the junk the commercial bakeries think they have to put in it to make folks buy them. Fresh rhubarb from the plant by the garage went into a great pie. My brother cutting and I did the making pie filling. Ain't pretty but DAMN it was good.

ice cream is fine but there is no need to screw up rhubarb with any other fruit. It is great by it self. Just tart enough, just sweet enough. Yum!!!!

Dog-gone,Ric I hadn't had a good rhubarb pie in decades. Ya got me to drooling all over this keyboard. Must agree though that some french vanilla ice cream would go good with it.
My "Ball & Chain" thinks she is real sneaky. She is now only cooking enough for two servings, one for her and one for me. Ain't no more seconds and thirds. My belly feels like my throat's been cut. I'm going to shrivel up and blow away. I'll have to go out and buy some suspenders to keep the britches up

...the best rhubarb pie I have ever had.....come to think of it, I don't believe anyone has ever cooked me once since.

Maybe that's what I need to advertise for in a woman, "must be able to cook" as it appears I am a better cook then most women I have been with.

What the heck, I will bake one!

I have done two apple pies so far, so it can't be any harder!

Remember, no leaves, just stems. Or you may not survive the experience. No matter what Ric says, a Strawberry Rubarb Pie is the best. 100 Pennsylavania Dutchmen can't be wrong.

...well... I just can't understand ruining a good rhubarb pie by putting something else in it. It hides the taste of the rhubarb...................

Well Ric, you probably have a distaste for peroxide blonds too.
However, I can assure you that the taste is tolerable
[the strawberry/rhubarb pie that is. LOL].

Not quite, Doc, but 258# was way too much. Down to 252# in less than a week. Yeah I know, the first 10 is mostly water and easy to shed.

Roy, I agree! Ain't nothing like the real thang.

My Mother and her Mother made strawberry-rhubarb pie - fantastic!

The sweetness of the strawberries balances the tart rhubarb - like good sweet-n-sour pork or chicken, or a tangy barbeque sauce with a touch of pineapple in it.
