At random: "Without courage, you might as well not be in it. You’ve got to have courage--moral courage, physical courage--and honor. Honor means telling the truth even when it might not be to your advantage" Retired Capt. Charles W. Rush Jr. (85), Navy Cross recipient, when asked to give advice to Chiefs and Junior Officers in today's submarine service.

As soon as I can haul myself to the Post Office drive-thru, I will toss my final payment for my National Rifle Association Life Membership, in the hopper. Two weeks ago I completed the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries course in Hunter Safety. In Virginia if you are 65 or older, you can get a Lifetime Hunting and Fishing license for $15....This winter Bambi's mother better buy a Kevlar flack vest......I've blown the dust off my Winchester 94, lever action, oiled the working parts, linseeded the stock, run a dozen Hoppes no. 7 soaked patches through the bore and filled the 30-30 bullet loops in my leather ammo belt and have purchased my obnoxious orange DON"T SHOOT ME vest. (The old Win. 94 was purchased in 1952, so it's a pre-China made, US made model. It's in great shape.) The NRA has a series of Membership levels....Life....Big Spender level....Really Big Spender level....Obscene Spender level....And Super Grand Potentate level....Jonny Krup is a Super Grand Potentate level member....When Jon shows up at the NRA National Headquarters in Fairfax, Wayne LaPierre. the Executive Vice President of the NRA comes running out, kisses him...asks for his autograph...and has thirty six virgins throw rose petals under his feet as he enters the building. I don't know what a Life Membership entitles you to....I think that when you go to the National Headquarters the 22 year old blond, big busted receptionist gives you a ten minute backscratch and a shoeshine....hope so. Once I get my Life Membership credentials and super hero cape, we can all go over to Cora's house and have ice cream and cookies and shoot something. DEX

Welcome to the Good Ole Boyz club Dex, I joined Life back when it was only $125 and had just received a large settlement from an auto accident. I still do send in a few $$ on occasion to keep up the fight.

Sitting by the camp fire, swatting mosquitos, swapping sea stories of the big ones tha got away, and eating camp food is not an adventure for the faint of heart.LOL Venture out to California and I will take you pig hunting on the family ranch one day. The four legged type not those bar room ones. My grandparents homesteaded a long time back and luckily my family has kept it so we have sort of private acreage to hunt. The sort of private is that we also get to chase down trespassers and tell them to get the fu-- off our land. That is almost as much fun as shooting at them.LOL

Now that I have retired, I've started teaching myself to fish and have gotten into shooting a little bit. The National Headquarters of the NRA is a short distance from here and they have as you would imagine, one helluva'n indoor range (You can shoot ANY longarm, handgun and fully auto machine guns.). I began shooting in the NRA Regionals at El Monte, Calif. and at the Jackass Club in San Diego,in 1954 (fifty feet, smallbore competition, Remmington 513-T) and have continued sporadically all my life....I have never hunted for several reasons....I don't kill things simply for the hell of it and I have two refrigerators with those upper freezing compartments....good for six ice trays and a couple of cartons of frozen peas and a gallon of ice cream....no way you could stuff a load of frozen venison in there. They have a program here in Virginia called FOOD FOR THE HUNGRY...but the bastards expect you to field dress the deer out, haul it out and drive to the nearest State franchised butcher....too damn much like work to me. I sign up for shooting rats at the dump (using 22 hollow-points) and shoot misletoe out of the tops of trees for Christmas....and shoot the 30-30 at the range (iron sights). I have a Chock-Full-of-Nuts coffee can where I toss change, saving up for some kind of 12 guage pump....some el cheapo duck gun. Hey....I've got nothing scheduled between here and the loading dock by the embalming room door at the funeral home....except for a sleepover at Cora's. DEX

Well you get a lifetime subscription to one of the two magazines the NRA publishes , some patches, a pin of an eagle, and alot of mail about events and alerts of a legislative nature. It's easier to go on line to get the latest news ect.

Check this out, DEX,

Winchester 1300 12 ga. pump shotgun.

When you get ready to get a shotgun (or any other gun) and you're not real choosy about new and shiny, check out Gunbroker.com.

I've bought guns there before and have been very pleased with the sellers and merchandise available there.

When I arrived at the NRA headquarters, there WERE 36 virgins spreading rose pedals. When I left the NRA headquarters there were only 33 virgins. I had to promise I would be back, but as I don't take any drugs (Viagra)I knew it would take me a couple hours to rest up and prepare myself. By that time Dex was out in the parking lot, tooting the horn on his van. I had to leave. (Damn!)

First liar doesn't stand a chance.

Park, I spent four hours on Gunbroker.com.....W-O-W....I didn't know that there was such an Alladin's Cave. About 2:00AM I went into firearms overload and I wasn't a third of the way through the listing. Folks, if you can't find the rifle or shotgun you are looking for on Gunbroker.com....You must be looking for some custom made sonuvabitch with a total production run of three. Park Dallis is absolutely right....GREAT TIP. THANKS PARK....Next, Jonny Krup, the resident minesweep also tells me about something called SHOTGUN NEWS....He also put me onto an Author named Peter Hathaway Capstick who was an East Africa big game hunter and multi-nation licensed Game Hunting Guide...The man is a very good writer....Jon turned me into devoted Capstick reader....DEX
