Dennis D. Larsen
EXETER -- Dennis Dean "Yat" Larsen, 65, died July 23, 2009, with his family by his side.
He was born in San Angelo, Texas, Aug. 31, 1943, to George Elwood Larsen and Dorothy Roach Larsen.
After his father died in World War II, his mother married James Hoten Bragg. He attended high school in Whitehall, Ohio. He enlisted in the U.S. Army and volunteered as a paratrooper in the 101st Airborne Division. He later enlisted in the U.S. Navy, where he served for 25 years and retired with the rank of senior chief petty officer. He served on the U.S.S. Clamagore as well as many other submarines.
He married Janice M. Landry in 1968. After retiring from the Navy, he worked for Public Service of New Hampshire for more than 20 years. He retired and moved to Pittsburg in 2003.
In his younger years, he was given the nickname "Yat" because of his striking likeness to Y. A. Tittle, a Football Hall of Fame inductee. This nickname stuck and was used so regularly that many of his closest friends never even knew his real name.
IN HIS LIFE: While living in Strafford, he had a massive heart attack on Oct. 7, 1989. Due to the damage of his heart, he received a heart transplant on July 4, 1990. This gave him a second chance on life for the next 19 years. During this time, he was able to become closer to his children. During his retired years, he traveled across country in his RV and later built a beautiful house in Pittsburg. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing his guitar, and being with his beloved dog, Curly. His family and friends will always remember the music he played on his guitar and the wonderful memories he gave us all. He will be greatly missed.
Family members include his three children, Christine Mousseau and her husband, John, and daughter, Mikayla; Deborah Thomas and her sons, Ty and Walter; and Michael Hoten Larsen, his wife, Meghan, and son, Owen Dean.
SERVICES: Calling hours are Tuesday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, 811 Lafayette Road, Hampton. A memorial service will follow at 1 p.m. in the funeral home. Interment will immediately follow the service in the N.H. State Veterans' Cemetery in Boscawen at 3 p.m. Donations may be made to the Disabled American Veterans, P.O. Box 14301, Cincinnati, Ohio 45250-0301. An online guest book is available at www.RemickGendron.com.
