At random: The USS SKATE (SSN 578) was the first vessel ever to surface at the North Pole, when on March 17, 1959 she surfaced there to conduct memorial services for the renowned Arctic explorer Sir Hubert Wilkins.

OY VEY, I'M HAVING A "FLASHBACK"...that's is not a miss-spent youth!!!  Those were fun times.

Tom, what was the name of the TV D.J. who would do shows on WPIX Channel 11 on the weekends from the Park??
They had some great shows from there...got to see a few of them...remember Freddie Cannon of "Palisades Park" fame...boy, have you jogged the "time continuem"!!!

WLS was and is 89.0.  Did you ever get any of the Philly stations in...I loved to listen to WBZ in Boston.

I can't remember much about WPIX other than the skinny weatherman with the moustache who used to do drawings with his forecast. The Phiily station was DJ'd by Joe Niagara but the call letters escape me. Joe passed on not too long ago.

Tex Antoine and Uncle Weatherbee, but I don't think he ever did the weather on Ch 11.

Hey Tom, do you remember "Officer Joe"...I'm still trying to think of the DJ who hosted shows from the Park...I think his name was Cole (first name)...and when WPIX did the St. Paddy's Day Parades...with the "Darlin' Mr. McCarthy...at least you got to see the "WHOLE PARADE"...I just tried to do a search on WPIX to see if they had an archive of some sort...

That's the guy and I'm 99% sure he was channel 11 as far back as the 50s that I remember.

IIRC, it was Cole something. I also remember that he had a show on Channel 13 before it went to PBS.

"Officer" Joe Bolton - kids show in the early evening (around 1700 IIRC).

Also "The Merry Mailman," Ray Heatherton, father of Joey Heatherton, who we, as 13 year old boys, all had a *high* crush on. :-)

And let's not forget Soupy Sales.

And let's not forget Alison Steele, "The Nightbird" with that sexy, sultry voice.

“The flutter of wings, the shadow across the moon, the sounds of the night, as the Nightbird spreads her wings and soars, above the earth, into another level of comprehension, where we exist only to feel. Come, fly with me, Alison Steele, the Nightbird, at WNEW-FM, until dawn.”

CLAY Cole -- *That* was the guy. The thought finally popped to the surface.

It's amazing what's back there among all the cobwebs. :-)

THAT'S HIM.  I just did a google and he's got his own website...with lots of goodies and memories!!!  www.theclaycoleshow.com.

Tom, you have to go check out the website.  They have uncut video from the show at the Park.
