Nicholas George Worz, Jr., 94, of Charlotte, NC died July 21, 2009 at Avante of Charlotte. Nick was born on September 17, 1914 in Mantua, OH, the son of Nicholas and Magdelena Worz. He married Margaret Sara Asplin on December 23, 1944. Mr. Worz served in the U.S. Navy submarine service during World War II. He worked for Union Carbide Corp., which brought him to Charlotte. Mr. Worz retired after 42 years serving in various management positions. Nick was a long time member of Carolina Golf and Country Club where he was an avid golfer. He also enjoyed fishing, gardening and serving Friendship Trays for many years. In addition to his parents, Mr. Worz was preceded in death by three brothers and one sister. Survivors include his wife, Margaret; three daughters, Jane Gabrielson (Scott) of Orlando, FL, Sally Zahos (Steve) of Champaign, IL, and Beth Groome (Doug), of Charlotte, NC; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one brother, Dr. Joseph Worz of Greenville, OH. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 P.M. Sunday August 16, 2009 at Grace United Methodist Church, 737 East Woodlawn Rd., Charlotte, NC 28209. The family will receive friends at an ice cream social in the fellowship hall following the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Grace United Methodist Church or to Friendship Trays, 2401-A Distribution St., Charlotte, NC 28203. Louis J. Mercier, Jr., 80, of Quaboag St, passed away at Cooley Dickinson Hospital on August 10, 2009. Born in Palmer, MA on December 1, 1928, the son of the late Louis Sr., and Dorothy (Cosgrove) Mercier. A lifelong resident of Palmer, Louis served his country in the US Navy during WWII and proudly was a part of the submarine service. Louis retired from Shop Rite Supermarkets after 20 years of employment in 1993. He was a member of Sts. Peter & Paul Church in Three Rivers. Louis will be greatly missed by his wife of 60 years, Gertrude (Magiera) along with his two daughters Pam Mercier and Lisa (Ray) Jangrow all of Three Rivers. He also leaves two sisters Patricia Severage of FL and Geraldine Olson (Harold) of Palmer along with many nieces and nephews. Louis was predeceased by siblings Sidney Mercier, Dorothy Lamery, and Marjorie Morgera. A memorial mass will be held Monday August 17th at 10:00 a.m. at Sts. Peter & Paul Church. Friends and family are asked to meet directly at the church. In lieu of flowers, kindly make donations to Quaboag Valley Hospice, 42B Wright St., Palmer, MA 01069.
