WILLISTON, S.C. - Dr. Aubrey Doyle Gantt of 115 Summit Hills Drive, Spartanburg, SC, formerly of Williston, SC passed away, Saturday, August 15, 2009, at Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System. Born February 9, 1924, in Pelion, SC, he was the son of the late Grover Gantt and the late Blanche Holley Gantt Gardner and brother of the late Annelle Gantt Lawther. A retired physician, he was an honor graduate of Clemson University and a 1946 graduate of the Medical College of SC. He was a charter fellow of The American Academy of Family Physicians; a member of the American Medical Association; a member of the Barnwell County Medical Society, having served as a past president; and a member of the SC Medical Association. He also served in the United States Navy as a Lieutenant, j.g., in the United States Naval Submarine Service. He was a former member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Pelion, SC and was currently a member of St. John Lutheran's Church in Spartanburg, SC. A loving husband, father, and grandfather, he is survived by his wife of 60 years, Jane Jones Gantt; a daughter, Rebecca Gantt Hill and her husband, Reggie Hill of Spartanburg, two sons; Aubrey Doyle Gantt, Jr. and his wife Gail Gantt of Clarksville, MD; George Grover Gantt and his wife Beth Gantt of Decatur, GA; a grandson, Martin Hill of Charleston, SC; three granddaughters, Heather Hill Kochamba and her husband David Kochamba of Atlanta, GA, Lauren Gantt and Rachel Gantt of Clarksville, MD; and a niece, Robin Ann Lawther of London, England. Visitation will be 11 a.m. to 12 noon, Monday, August 17, 2009, at Folk Funeral Home in Williston, SC. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, August 17, 2009, at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Pelion, SC conducted by the Rev. Charles Seastrunk. Burial will take place in Oaklawn Cemetery in Pelion following the service. Family will receive friends at the parish building at Holy Trinity immediately following burial. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, PO Box 126 Pelion, SC 29123.
