At random: The USS Blenny SS 324, on her last patrol of WW II sank 63 vessels. One by torpedo and 62 by deck gunfire, demolition charges set by boarding parties or by burning. On several occasions shotguns were fired through the boats bottoms. These were all vessels under the 500 ton JANAC limit for tonnage sunk and not counted in the "official" totals or ships sunk. This is also a record for the most vessels ever sunk by a submarine on one patrol.

Just passing along some more CLICKETY CLICK stuff:

Rearview Mirror / Michigan History
One of their sections is HERE (has a submarine story too)
Another recent find is called Damn Interesting
Both of the above can be found on the 3Rs page.

What’s stopping bird flu’s big step? This is an excellent online article from ENDEAVORS, a
UNC magazine. (I have received the paper version for many years and only recently
bothered to check its link.)

On the HEAVY HITTERS page you can scroll to a site by "The University Research
Magazine Association".  So far as I know all of its links access FREE online pubs.
(includes ENDEAVORS)

More tweaks to the ENGINE ROOM I've become a big, big fan of INFO.com.
Especially its RESEARCH side. Start pulling threads there and you may be up half the
night.

PS

Every (pre-OSHA approved) gasoline can I have has leaky spouts  . You know the kind..
has the plastic tube protruding from a 1 3/4 in screw on lid. After it splits you dribble
gasoline on your foot while gassing up your stuff.

Local hardware stores no longer carry the replacement spouts. Hit the search engines
today and found replacements at
http://www.jackssmallengines.com/gascan_acc.cfm

...and eyeball the price of "OSHA APPROVED" cans.
Expensive!
