I'm in the process of placing pictures of the first Airmen rescued by the Sterlet. I'm putting descriptive text boxes next to each picture.

The one I'm working on right now, is Sterlet crewmen actually hoisting the 'Zoomies' aboard. What would be the first thing you would say to someone who rescued you from a tiny little rubber boat floating in the big ocean? On a previous pic, I have already said, "My boat is so small, and the ocean's so big," so can't use that again. One that I thought of was, "What took you so long?", but that's not too original. 'Course, it might have been sixty-five years ago. You people are clever, I know you'll be able to think of something .

I don't know how to post this on Rontini's board. I don't even know how to get there.

Elmer and I had a lengthy discussion about the style of the book, and we agreed that it would be a 'classy' book, vs. a 'no-class' book. He did talk about his first whorehouse (can I say that here?), and that's in the book, but we did want this book to be mainly for his family - children; grandchildren; and ultimately great-grandchildren (of which he now has four, but the most recent one is only a few weeks old, so he missed knowing that one).

I have a little story of one man who was rescued, actually written by him. He says that the crew of the Sterlet 'relieved' him of his 38 caliber pistol, binoculars and watch as soon as he was aboard. I wonder if they gave them back to him? Maybe that will give you another idea.

Send what you had in mind to my personal e-mail box here on the BBS.

1. for access to Rontini's BBS go here (and bookmark if you want to return).
I'm taking the liberty of posting a link to this thread over there - a lot folks participate in both forums and you might get some more ideas. Here's my post over there.

2. yes, 'whore house' is an acceptable term, given the context of your post.
I personally don't believe in sugar-coating historical info ... why not tell it the way it really was? I used to cringe sometimes when my Pappy was talking about some of his WW II experiences along those lines but I realize now: Hey! That's history!
