Leslie Bond (Happy) Phillips, 80, of 155 Landrum Drive, Bogart, Ga. died Wednesday, August 26, 2009 at the Alzheimer's Care in Commerce, Ga. Mr. Phillips was born in Florida, November 18, 1928, son of the late Thomas Gober Phillips and Eunice Fleming Phillips. He was retired from Lockheed as a Senior Design Engineer after 30 years of service. Mr. Phillips was a United States Navy Veteran having served during World War II as a submarine radio operator. He was a member of the Bogart United Methodist Church. Survivors Include: Wife: Kathleen Mabry Phillips Bogart, Ga; Sons: Les Phillips Cartersville, Ga Rick Phillips Walhalla, SC; Grandchildren: Brett, Amy, Trace and Claire Phillips; Brother: Jack Phillips Marietta, Ga; Sister: Beth Phillips Owens Conyers, Ga. Preceded in death by: 2 Brothers: Tom and John Phillips. Funeral Services for Mr. Phillips will be at 2:00 P.M., Saturday, August 29, 2009 at the Canon United Methodist Church with Mr. Mike Boen and Rev. Travis Sneed officiating. Burial will follow in the Bowers Memorial Gardens in Canon, Ga. Nephews will serve as Pallbearers. Honorary Pallbearers will be the Staff of the Alzheimer's Care in Commerce, Ga. The body is at the Pruitt Funeral Home in Royston, Ga. where the family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Friday Evening. The body will be placed in the church at 1:30 P.M. Saturday Afternoon. Flowers are Optional - Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Care in Commerce, 200 Bolton Drive, Commerce, Ga. 30553. Pruitt Funeral Home in Royston, Ga. is in charge of arrangements

William D. Miller, Jr., 80, a lifelong resident of Plainfield, IL. At peace, August 25, 2009 at Provena St Joseph Medical Center. He was born January 14, 1929 in Aurora to William D., Sr. and Gladys Miller. Bill is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Joyce (nee Dickens); his loving children, William D. Miller, III of Minooka, Randal (Mary) Miller of Joliet, Ronald (Fran) Miller of Minooka, Sandra (Jeb) Sillar of Marscilles, Shelly (Ken) Kaupas of Shorewood; his ten wonderful grandchildren, Randal J. Miller, Jr, Hayley K. and Hannah S. Miller, Lucas (Dana) Sillar, Rachel (Doug) Swenson and Margaret Sillar, Jena Foster, Bradyn Kaupas, Jamie and Jennie Miller; his sister, Sally (Sam) Koch; as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Shirley Reichert and Carol Sue McGrath. Bill proudly served in the US Naval Submarine Service during the Korean Conflict. He was a Police Officer for the Village of Plainfield, a Deputy Sheriff for the Will County Sheriffs Office, and retired as the Chief of Law Enforcement for the Department of Conservation Police, State of Illinois. He was also a lifetime member of the Plainfield Masonic Lodge, a ranger for the Links at Carillon, and thoroughly enjoyed practicing the art of wild game meat preparation. Visitation will be Sunday. August 30, 1:00 until 6:00 PM at the Overman-Jones Funeral Home. Plainfield. Masonic Services will begin at 6:00 PM. A private family interment will be at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood.
