At random: USS TRITON, the only American made twin reactor submarine ever built, on May 10, 1960, completed the first totally submerged non-trivial circumnavigation of the world when she followed the route of Ferdinand Magellan for 36,000 miles during 84 days beneath the surface.

Subject: Modern day Valhallah.....

In ancient Norse tradition there was a place where brave warriors were taken by the Valkeries, the Choosers of the Slain. It was said to be a large lodge hall made magically larger to accomodate all of the qualified dead vikings. It was a joyful place where old scarred warriors in dented and dinged up armor wearing dished in and sword slashed helmets sat around an old scarred and nicked up oak table drinking mead, belching and hollering, banging tabnkards and drinking horns and dandling big busted blond barmaids on their knees. In short, it was where every seagoing warrior aspired to be...Kind of an old Viking Holland Club....Probably what the fellows who thought up the concept of the Holland Club had in mind. A fellowship of the tribal elders who can sit around the council fire and pass on the verbal history of the undersea vikings and perpetuate their legends and unexpurgated tall tales, sea stories and made up bulls**t to weave the tapestry of the Submarine Force as only they saw it and remember it. Sort of a senior citizen torch pass where the old guys get a second chance to relive a big chunk of their wild and wooley youth....recapture memories and share there days in the Sub Force with those of a similar time. Whoever thought the concept up needs one helluva pat on the back...There could be no better late in life gift. I'm standing outside the gate waiting for the day the Keeper of the Gate shows up and says, "Come on in, you old sonuvabitch we have a place on the bench for you and a warm bottomed buxum barmaid to dandle on your knee." Keeper of the Gate...keep an eye out for me, I'm about to set the manuvering watch for entering port. DEX
