Clifford A. 'Kip' Cormier, 72, of Sanford, ME died on Tuesday, September 1, 2009, at his residence. Kip was born in Sanford on March 5, 1937, to P. Clifford and Evelyn Libby Cormier and attended local schools, graduating from Sanford High School in 1955. In 1960 he married Joyce Normandeau and together the couple raised two sons. He retired from the US Navy Submarine Service after serving for 23 years. After serving in the military Kip went to work as a supervisor for CYRO for 17 years. After leaving there he went on to work for 10 years in maintenance at St. Ignatius Church in Sanford. Kip made friends very easily and was always ready with a helping hand. He never encountered obstacles that he was unable to resolve. He was very meticulous in his work and took pride in keeping St. Ignatius Church and cemetery in pristine condition. He was very handy and could fix or do most anything that he put his mind to. Kip's friendly personality left a lasting imprint on those who knew him. His love of family was evident and he always enjoyed family gatherings and outings. He will be remembered as a loving and caring husband, father and grandfather and will be dearly missed by his family and friends. Surviving are his wife of 49 years, Joyce Cormier of Sanford; two sons, Clifford and his wife Donna (Caron) of Sanford and Stephen of Sanford; four grandchildren, Heather and Kayla Cormier of Kennebunk, Benjamin Cormier of Boston and Derek Cormier of Orono; and two siblings, Douglas Cormier and his wife Dottie (Burrows) of Cumberland and Marilyn Dinardo of Sanford. A private graveside service with full military honors will be held at St. Ignatius Cemetery in Sanford. Arrangements are through Lafrance-Lambert & Black Funeral Home in Sanford. Lawrence L. Loring, 77, of 222 Ledyard St., New London, CT passed away Wednesday morning, September 2, 2009, at Fairview in Groton. He was born in New Bedford, Mass. on June 7, 1932, the son of John S. and Inez Howland Loring. Lawrence married Gloria Muscarella on June 28, 1954, in New London. He was a navy submarine service veteran of both the Korean and Viet Nam Wars. He was a crew member on the submarine Skate when it became the first sub to surface at the North Pole. After he retired from the navy he worked as an operator at Millstone for 20 years. Lawrence was an avid sailor and was a member the Cat Boat Association. He was a decendent of a well known whaling family out of New Bedford and still had many artifacts from the whaling ships. In his retirement he enjoyed working with his son, Scott, at Loring Restorations. Besides his wife, he is survived by two sons, Lawrence L. Jr. and his wife, Suzanne, of Farmington, Maine and Scott A. and his wife, Terri, of New London; a daughter, Susan Plunkett and her husband, Grant; a sister, Sheila Denis of Maryland; five grandchildren, Scott, Katie, Emily, Elena and Julia and three great-grandchildren, Christopher, Lily and Raleigh. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Byles Memorial Home, 99 Huntington St. New London. A visiting hour will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday. Please omit flowers. Donald Wayne “Pete”Sencenbaugh, was born in Lewiston, Idaho December 5, 1921. He attended school in Grand Junction, Colorado. Pete's love for math started in high school, where he also began playing the clarinet. After graduating from high school at 16, Pete went to Mesa County Junior College and shortly thereafter received an appointment to the US Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland. He was commissioned as an officer and served during and after World War II aboard the submarine USS Raton, was executive officer for the USS Threadfin and was skipper of the USS Atule. Pete received the Silver Star for “conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity as plotting officer about the USS Raton during the sixth patrol.”After the war he met Betty Jane Grigsby, and the two were soon married. Pete attended MIT receiving a Masters degree in Electrical Engineering, while continuing his naval service. After graduation he was stationed at the Pentagon in Washington D.C. In 1962 Pete retired from the Navy and relocated to Colorado Springs with his wife and children, where he worked for Kaman Sciences as a mathematician. After a second retirement, Pete enjoyed judging figure skating, trips to the cabin in Allen's Park, Colorado, and hiking in the mountains with his children. Pete and Jane were long-time members of St. Michael's Episcopal Church in Colorado Springs. Pete didn't believe in coincidences; only “God incidences,”and always felt he had been guided by God throughout his life. Jane passed away in 2005. Since then, and as his health deteriorated, Pete often expressed his desire to be with the Lord and reunited with his wife and son. He was a Registered Professional Engineer in Colorado, a member of the Society of Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM), a life member of the Institute of Electric and Electronics Engineers (IEE), a retired member of the American Physical Society (APS) and a member of the United States Figure Skating Association (USFSA). Pete was preceded in death by son Bill, and is survived by, Buz aka Bev, son Bob (Debbie), his daughter Louise (Frank) LoBosco, and grandchildren, Rob and Ed Sencenbaugh, Sarah and Kale LoBosco, and two great-grandchildren Sierra and Quinn Sencenbaugh. A memorial service will be at 10:00 a.m., Friday, September 4, 2009, St. Michael the Archangel Episcopal Church, 7400 Tudor Road, Colorado Springs, CO 80918. Inurnment will be in the church's columbarium.
