John Jerrold Banion, 76 of Sedalia, died Thursday, September 3, 2009 at Bothwell Regional Health Center. He was born October 14, 1932 in Independence, KS, a son of Lester L. and Lottie Kelly Banion. On August 31, 1957 in Independence, KS he was married to Joan Marie Main, who preceded him in death on October 15, 2004. Mr. Banion was raised and educated in Independence, KS. He served in the U.S. Navy during Korea aboard the submarine USS Blackfin. After his Navy service he attended pharmacy school in Kansas City. He graduated in 1962 and moved to Sedalia in September of 1967. He owned and operated several drug stores in Sedalia, including Sedalia Drug and Bard Drug Store. He was a world traveler having visited Ireland, Scotland, England, Italy, Australia and Germany. Surviving are a son, Jason Banion (Rhonda), of Sedalia; a daughter, Elaine Collins (Richard), also of Sedalia; two brothers, Rodney Banion, of Topeka, KS and Pat Banion, of Havana, KS; a sister, Marsha Ashford, of Independence, KS; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Allen Banion. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, September 8th at Crown Hill Cemetery, with the Rev. Bracy Hill officiating. Full military honors will be conducted by VFW Post 2591. Friends may call after 2 p.m. Monday at McLaughlin Funeral Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Missouri Veterans Home, Warrensburg, MO, in care of McLaughlin Funeral Chapel. Condolences may be left online at mclaughlinfuneralchapel.com.
