My cousin Einar took a Russian bullet in the face during the 1939 - 1940 war. He just passed away a few years ago.

My father-in-law, Sven, fought the Russians in the Winter War, both on skis and in the cavalry. Initially, the Finns acquitted themselves very well, but ultimately they lost due to the overwhelming force that Stalin was able to bring to bear. After the war, Sven brought his family, including my future wife, to the U.S. and lived out his years as a shipwright in California. I regret that I didn't spend more time listening to and recording his stories.
