It was a great Reunion.  Here is a photo of part of the Pre-commissioning/Commissioning crew for the 667 on Sat. night at our Dinner.

Ya know, we only had one TM there...and he was on the 320.  But I do have a photo of Sub School Class.  Tell me this one won't make you feel old!!!

Well, that didn't work!!!

Just as a side note, the young man, second row, 5th seat in...stands a very "tall" 6'7"!!!

That looks like John Duddy YNC, lower right???

I checked...it is John.  We served on the SS-407 together (67) when he was YN1(SS).  Great Shipmate.

You are correct, Paul.  He lives in New London and was instrumental in getting us some  to patronize great places to have some very fine meals...especially at a place called "Hanafin's", which is about a block away.  The "Shepherd's Pie" was to die for...the man is a hoot...had us ALL in a constant state of laughter.  He's a great guy!

Patty, like I posted above,  I've know John from 67, but did not realize he served on Bergall.  It looks like he went there after the SS-407, but I was out of the Navy by then.

He lives in Ocean Beach just a few doors away from one of our snake ranches.

John was our original ASSOC Vice Commander from 1999.

one is National Defense Ribbon (serving in time of war) and the other looks like a marksman medal but might be Global War on Terror ribbon

The photo attached is of the gentleman, who at the time, was a Lt. and is the picture taker of the "infamous" Bergall Sunset photo, Lt. Les Jacobi!

What is with no stripes? I see a few e-E-3's and an E-2 and one striker. The guys with no stripes are they E-1's or E-0's? Not sure I understand this new Navy any more.
In 1964 we left boot camp as E-2's because I was told E-1's couldn't be taken to sea. In 1967 we had a guy who had been busted to E-1 report aboard and the Captain had to make him an E-2 so he could go on patrol with us.

6' 7". Recently I was told by a NucPower Student that the current height restriction for submarines was 6' 5". Does anyone know if there are any height restrictions currently in force for Submarine Duty. I have a friend that served on Lost and Confused that is 6' 8" and I served on Cubera with a gent from Texas that was also 6' 8" tall. But that was some time back. Like almost ancient History.

From what I understand, there is still no height restriction.  This is the young man when he went up to receive his certificate.  The Chief who gave it to him is about my height, 5'8", and as you can see he "towers" over him.

When I served on the USS Buffalo (SSN-715), from 1985 to 1988, both the COs I served, Cdr. Carl T. Berry and Cdr. Donald P. Miller, were 6'-7".

And there was no height restriction to keep Midn 2/C David Robinson and one of his roommates from spending 2 weeks of his Junior summer (1986?) cruise onboard Buffalo. Although the COB did issue them hardhats when they came aboard. Their visit was documented by a Sports Illustrated photo crew.

LTjg David Robinson toured CALHOUN during my final refit. He had recently been assigned as Resident Officer in Charge of Construction (ROICC) at Subase KB, and was doing the PR tour around the base. I remember him spending the entire tour hunched over. He was a very gracious guest during the tour, and showed genuine interest in the boat. He was frequently at the base gym after working hours, working out and playing basketball with the young sailors there. He was the deciding factor when I became a fan of the San Antonio Spurs, and still to me the classiest basketball team around (the Dennis Rodman experiment notwithstanding).

I know the Coast Guard had a hight limit years ago. You had to be 6' tall or you couldn't get in. The reason was, if your ship sank you could wade ashore. ha ha Thats just a joke the coasties do a hell of a job. John396

John Duddy came aboard the USS Tirante SS-420 as a YN1(nqp) sometime in 1964 or 65 I think. At first he had trouble accepting that a qualified third class could tell him what to do. He qualified quickly as a result. We sailed together until I swapped to the Ronquil in May 1966. He was a great shipmate and when I complained about him drinking a bottle of Anejo Bacardi I brought back from Gitmo and had stored at a Bar Maids house, he only had to say, "Remember that 28 days of leave you took that is at the bottom of my trash can?", and I said, "I hope you enjoyed the rum".lol

He also had an old friend from Boston who came to Key West and worked at the Gate Bar for a while whose name was Marian. She was a great lady, don't hit me Marian if you read that.LOL . I saw John and his wife at the first USSVI Convention in Reno. I think he said Marian had married another boat sailor and also lived near Groton.

Good friends,
T.Spoon, DBF
