At random: "Submariners are a special brotherhood, either all come to the surface or no one does. On a submarine, the phrase all for one and one for all is not just a slogan, but reality.” -- VADM Rudolf Golosov of the Russian Navy

On this date, 65 years ago today, the US 101st Airborne, the US 82nd Airborne and the British 1st Airborne Divisions began landing in Holland during Operation Market-Garden to capture a series of bridges for British ground troops moving up from Belgium. The weeklong battle ended 9 days later with the evacuation of the remnants of the British 1st Airborne from the Arnhem-Oosterbeek area.... the two US divisions captured most of their objectives at great cost.. the British 1st Airborne didn't and lost a vast majority of the division...

A very dear friend of mine, Bob Perdue, jumped with the 101st Airborne into Holland on 17 September. A week later, he was wounded outside of Veghel...

TO REMEMBER
