William Howard Parker, 83, passed away Sunday, September 20, 2009, with his family by his side at Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland, MS. Howard was born February 14, 1926 in Haynesville, LA to Herman and Mary Jane Parker. He is preceded in death by his parents; two sisters; and a brother. As a boy, Mr. Parker moved from Haynesville, LA to Moselle, MS. He joined the U.S. Navy during World War II and served aboard the USS Carp submarine as a Torpedoman 3rd Class. After the war, he attended USM where he met and married his wife, Lois. He taught school at Mt. Olive High School and later became a sales rep for Republic Powdered Metals. Throughout the 1970's, Mr. Parker was president of Parker & Associates, Inc., waterproofing contractors. He retired to the country in Braxton, MS, and later moved to Brandon, MS. Mr. Parker was a member of First United Methodist Church of Brandon, MS. During his retirement, he and Lois drove cars for various dealerships in the Jackson/Brandon area. Mr. Parker was always known as a generous man and would share garden fresh vegetables with others at the dealerships. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Lois T. Renfroe Parker of Brandon; daughters, Kay Parker Gatewood (Toby) of Pelahatchie, MS and Amy Parker Jones of Brandon, MS; a son, Steve Parker of Vicksburg, MS; daughter in law, Claudia Porter Parker of Brandon, MS; one granddaughter; three grandsons; four great grandsons; one great granddaughter; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. The family thanks the members of the First United Methodist Church of Brandon and all the friends and neighbors for their faithful prayers and visits, and to the staff and associates of Hospice Ministries who assisted during Howard's final days. Visitation is 6 - 8 p.m. tonight at Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Brandon, MS. Graveside services are 3 p.m. Tuesday, September 22, 2009, in Brandon Memorial Gardens.
