Henri J. Coutu, 86, passed away Wednesday evening, September 30, 2009, following a brief stay at a local nursing home. Henri was born in Lowell on January 27, 1923, a son of the late Andre and Clarina (Roux) Coutu. As a boy, Henri attended Notre Dame de Lourdes Grammar School, the Lowell Trade School and Lowell High School. He also attended Fitchburg State College. Mr. Coutu was a U.S. Navy veteran of WWII, and served as a submarine sailor EM2c. Henri was married to Virginia M. (Spence) and together they raised three loving children. Together they celebrated 58 years of marriage. Henri was employed locally as a Master Electrician. He was also an Electrical Instructor for 20 years at the Greater Lawrence Technical High School. Henri was a parishioner of the Sacred Heart Church until its closing, and had been a parishioner of Holy Family Parish Ste. Marie's Church until his passing. At both churches, Henri was an usher and collector for many years. He also kept in touch with Holy Family while living in Sandown, NH. Henri was a longstanding member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Local 103-588. He held membership in the Retired State, County, and Municipal Employees Association of Massachusetts. He was also a member of the Greater Lawrence Technical School Retirees, the Brunswick Club 55 Bowling League, and the Park Place Senior Bowling League. Henri remained very active, enjoying camping and golfing. He was a motorcycle enthusiast, and until two years ago, still rode his motorcycle. He would also make the annual ride to Laconia, NH for Biker Week. He was always very mechanically inclined and very good at fixing anything. Henri lived all of his life in Lowell, 60 years in the same house on Staveley Street. This past year, he became a resident of the Fox Den Retirement Community in Sandown, NH. His son-in-law and daughter built the facility and having watched the construction project, he decided he would like to live there. Henri was very happy while he lived at the Fox Den. Henri was constantly involved with his five grand-children, and especially with his 8 great-grandchildren. Henri was the loving husband of the late Virginia M. (Spence) Coutu who died in 2003. Surviving Mr. Coutu are his three children, Claire L. Lambert of Dracut, Patricia M. Nicolaisen and her husband, Paul of Chester, NH, and Jensen Beach, FL, and John H. Coutu and his wife, Connie of San Antonio, TX; five grandchildren, Thomas S. Lambert, Jr. and his wife, Camille of Derry, NH, Michelle L. (Lambert) Gorman of Nashua, NH, Sherry Webster and her husband, Keith of Henniker, NH, Eric Nicolaisen and his wife, Michelle of Chester, NH, and Leska L. Douglas and her husband, Bill of Crystal Lake, IL; eight great-grandchildren; two sisters, Jeanne Ouellette of Laurenceville, GA, and Rita Gagnon of Hudson, NH. Mr. Coutu was also the brother of the late Blanche Vandenbulke of Lowell, and Gloria Coutu of California. Family and friends may call at the Fay Mccabe Funeral Home, 105 Moore Street, Lowell, on Tuesday from 3 until 7 P.M. Henri's Funeral will begin on Wednesday morning at 9 o'clock from the Funeral Home, followed by his Funeral Mass at 10 o'clock at Holy Family Parish Ste. Marie's Church, corner of Chamberlain and Grafton Sts. Lowell. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery. As an expression of sympathy, donations in Henri's memory may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 311 Arsenal St., Watertown, MA 02472. Ervin L. Crosby, beloved husband, father, and friend, passed away peacefully in his home in Everett, September 29, 2009 after bravely battling cancer. He was born on June 29, 1938 in Seattle, WA, the son of Pearl and Ervin Crosby. Erv served in the United States Navy beginning with submarine schooling June 1956. He actively served on the USS Wahoo (SS-565). He worked in the elevator trade for 35 years before retiring in 1995. He and his wife purchased Four Winds Kite Store in 1992, located in Everett. This allowed them to meet many wonderful people over the last 17 years. Throughout his life Erv enjoyed a multitude of projects which included: building a two man submarine, a motor home, restoring a green school bus, building kites, and eventually RC boats. Indian carving remained a passion throughout his life. Erv is survived by his wife and true love of 50 years, Gail; four daughters, Shelley (Dick), Tracey, Laurie, Laura; granchildren, Amanda, Brad, Sarah, Jon and the M's; brothers, Gary (Lisa), Gil (Val); and loved puppy mill dog, "George". The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Hospice. A Celebration of Life memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m., on Saturday, October 10 at Mukilteo Presbyterian Church, 4513 84th St SW, Mukilteo. Reception at church will follow.
